Lightroom: Synchronise folder malfunction

I've added 10 images to a folder and want to synchronise them into my library. Instead of adding 10 images, LR wants to add 891 images and remove 881 missing images. Obviously all these images aren't missing.

It acts the same on all folders, even one I created for a shoot only yesterday. I can't go about removing all images and reimporting them every time I add just a few images and on top of that I'm afraid of losing my edits as I'm not generating sidecar files (instead I backup my LR catalog on a daily basis).

Any ideas? I'm on OS X 10.10.2 with LR 5.7.1.

I am having this problem, too. It imports a few but then it stops. I have had to restart LR 3 times, already. Same OS and version of LR as Emile.

Are your photos stored on a local hard disk or on a network drive? Mine is on a network drive. I'll verify if the behavior is the same on a local folder...

Mine are on an external hard drive. I have not tried to do one on a local drive.

Mine are on an external as well, but they always have been since LR 2 and this is a new issue.

Mine are all local, though on an internal, secondary hard disk. My catalog resides on an internal SSD. I'll check later this morning what happens when I sync a folder on the same drive my catalog resides on.

Yup, we're on to something. If I copy some images from my secondary hdd to the drive where my catalog resides on and synch that folder, it all works as it should. Synching folders on the secondary drive still results in LR wanting to ditch all images (which means losing all edits and virtual copies; tried that and thank heaven for backups) before reimporting them.
