Hi! Every time I add new photos into LR, open for example the first one (1511_birthday-Mark_001.NEF) in Photoshop, do some editing, save and close it - the new TIFF file (1511_birthday-Mark_001.TIF) will appear at the end of imported photos list and not next to original .NEF file. And every time I need to go back to Library module and change the sorting order from "Added Order" to "File Name". That would be nice if LightRoom could save the selected Sorting Order. Thank you very much in advance!Kind regards,Alexey

Are you in a folder or collection? Added Order is only the default for the Previous Import collection. All of the other folders and collections should remember their sort.

Hi Victoria. Thank you again for your help.
Every time I change the Sort Order for "Previous Import" collection from "Added Order" to "File Name" - next time I restart the LR and import new photos - I get the default sort order back!

If I switch to folder view, the default sort order for the folders is "Captured time" and if I change to "File Name" and restart LR, then this order stay without change. That is OK. But if I import new files and switch to the new folder - I still MUST change from "Captured time" to "File Name" AGAIN !!!

Question is - how to change the default sort order for Folders from "Captured time" to "File Name"? See screenshots below.

Cheers,
Alexey

Ok, so I'll set this is a feature request to set a sort order default. (You can't at the moment).

Has this been implemented yet? I do not see it and it is very disturbing for me to have images imported in "Added Order" rather than "Capture Time".

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled LIGHTROOM Set default sort order (as option).

When keywording images it can be very annoying if the sort order is other that expected.

My lightroom defaults sort order: "Added order", which rarely is chronological order; hence, when I am halfway through my keywordning I recognize that I miss a lot of images that happens to appear at the buttom of the grid. Basically, I have to start over with the keywording.

Could you please let me set my preferred sort order (eg. "Title") as default?

Constantly having to set a certain sort order ... and not having it stick ... is a real stupid feature!

I use several cameras AND I also scan thousands of photos, negatives, and slides from numerous collections.  Example ... I recently scanned about 3000 slides from a family that covered almost thirty years.  The boxes of slides were scanned in the order that I got to them ... and the boxes were NOT all in any special order.  The slides were named according to content and time (if known).

This process created folders where one box of slides might be ten years apart from the next box.  I placed them in folders AND sub-folders according to dates and content ... and imported them into Lightroom for further work.

Guess what Lightroom INSISTS on doing?  EVERY folder at first look is sorted by .... CAPTURE TIME.   ARG!  I clicked on a folder and set it TO FILE NAME.  Then I looked at one of its sub-folders .... and it was set to CAPTURE TIME.   Then I went back to the parent folder ... selected ALL the images and set FILE NAME.  I exited and came back in ... and the sub-folders were STILL on CAPTURE TIME.

It is obvious that Lightroom DOES have a default sort order coded in ... because it always goes to that default order.  It is also obvious that Lightroom HAS THE ABILITY to use different sort orders ... because uses can set it ... ON A FOLDER BY FOLDER BASIS.

What I would like is for Lightroom have a setting to ALWAYS have the sort order to be what I want and NOT what some a**hole at Adobe wants.

What I DON'T NEED is for some ARROGANT Adobe moderator telling me that I have to change the setting on every folder ... EVERY TIME.

I have seen this issue discussed in Lightroom forums for years ... and Adobe seems to have no interest in fixing a simple database issue.

What's the REAL problem here?  Money?  Didn't get any last night?  Bad hair day?  It's obvious Adobe simply doesn't care.

There should be a way to make your choice of which way you want your photos sorted(Library, Folders - View, sort) "Sticky" so when you make the setting it will remain for all folders and also when photos are imported.  I like my photos in Ascending order but they are always sorted in descending order so the first time I open a folder containing the actual photos I must resort them.  It would also help if I could go to the master folder or select several folders and make a global reset of the sort order.

In Folders the sort order is inherited from the parent (containing) Folder.
Set your lower level folders to the order you like and new folders will be created with that order.
This is my experience anyway YMMV
