Lightroom Soft Proofing - Annoying Flash to Black

In Lightroom when you hit the Soft Proof box, There is an annoying "Flash To black" in between the two views (proof/original). This makes it very hard to see the minor differences there may be between the original and the proofed view because it takes your eyes a moment to adjust, especially if you use say a med gray Background for your images.

My workaround for this is to change both backgrounds to Black. Then you can truly see only the difference in proofed/original.

One added feature I would love to see is in Reference View, when you make a Proof Copy. If you could show the original image on the left (reference) without soft-proofing on and then the Proof copy on the right WITH soft-proofing on. Then you could really match up the looks of the two very easily in develop
