Lightroom: Slideshow export is extremely slow. A 97 slideshow took 25 hours to export.

In previous versions of LR, the export of a 400+ slideshow took about 3 hours, now a small slide show takes 25 hours. I am processing the photos as JPEGS and export at 80%. They are good quality, I reimport them to make the slideshow. I add 1 or 2 pieces of music. At one time, I also optioned for the zoom in/zoom out feature, but dropped it because the export was about 10% done in 24 hours. This is obviously a problem.

What OS?
Go to Help>System Info and get us your Lightroom Version

I am running a test of 413 images exported with two songs in the sound track. I will let you know how my time turns out.

At first try, I used the largest size output, after 6 hours, I changed it to the next lower level. That one took 25 hours. I export to a WD Elements External Hard Drive. It is connected to the fastest port on my computer. I use a Toshiba All In One. Understand that when exporting photos, even TIFF format, the speed is great. The only problem I have is with the Slideshow module. The two songs I used were Barbara Streisand's PEOPLE and the Hawaiian version of Over the Rainbow. Total time of the production is 7 min 10 sec. What else might you need? (This is the one that took 25 hours to export) The other one that I ran, prior to this, was 408 photos, 4 pieces of music and runtime of 23min 13 sec. No zoom in/out. Photo export quality high. This also took well over 24 hours. Understand, two other slideshows (10/3/14 and 1//21/15), over 400 photos with one piece of music, took 3-4 hours to export. Same computer was used. This problem arose with the subsequent updates.

I am using Windows 7. Current version LR6.7, but I was using 6.6.1 before. I reran in 6.7 and it didn't go any faster. I have 8GB RAM, 1 T hard drive. No photos are stored on computer. I have 3 --5T external hard drives to store pics. I work off one, duplicate on second and backup everything to third. When I first used LR for Slideshow, it was on the first version that offered slideshow. Limit one piece of music. I used two pieces of music on this one, but I tried all combinations, no music, one piece of music. It didn't matter, nothing made it work faster.

LR CC2015.7: I ran the test on a 4 year-old Macbook Pro Retina on El Capitan and the 413 raw images accompanied by two Adele songs took 1 hour and 30 minutes to render at 1080P  You didn't say which output size you specified so I took the larger.

I did a second test on a Windows 10 Box with a smaller set (70 Images) and a slideshow took 39 minutes to render to 1080P.

It looks like there is something not quite right on your system. Can you give me any more information about your setup?

Could you share the Make and Model of your GPU?

You can get this information as follows:
1. Open Run command (Windows + R)
2. Enter dxdiag and Click on OK
3. From DirectX Diagnostic Tool, go to Display tab and share the ScreenShot with us.

Thanks,
Smit Keniya

You have some 3rd party extension called stellarium.exe which may be creating a conflict with resources for your card. I would disable that.

Also, did you go directly to the Intel site to get the latest driver? Or simply do windows update?

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26228/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8...

The version you have listed doesn't jive with what's up on the Intel site.

Which version am I supposed to choose. All four offer windows 7. I am using a 64 bit program, but the download for the 64 bit option says it is not the proper one. I am not going to load all of them trying to find out the right one. By the way, Stellarium was only recently installed, but I uninstalled it anyway. Please let me know which option to choose. Thanks, Jan

Hi Jan,

As you are using 64 bit OS, you need to download either win64_154028.4501.exe or .zip. To make sure that file has been downloaded correctly, you can verify md5 of the file downloaded with the md5 shared with each file on the website.

md5 for win64_154028.4501.exe is 7dcaba123ac426dd54908c344985758a

To Verify checksum on Windows:
  1. Download the Microsoft File Checksum Integrity Verifier from here.
  2. Once you have downloaded that, it will ask for a location to extract when you run it. Choose your user folder here.
  3. Open Command Prompt by entering cmd in Run command (Windows + R).
  4. Make sure that the Command Prompt has opened with your user folder in focus. It should show the path C:\Users\<username>
  5. Run the following command:
    fciv.exe -md5 <complete_file_path_of_driver_file>
  6. Make sure the md5 generated here is same as that on the website.
Thanks,
Smit

Hi,

We have updated and fixed a lot around Slideshow in Lightroom 6.8/2015.8.

Could you update and give it a try?

Thanks,
Smit Keniya

I updated LR. The fix did improve the export. I started it at 2:52pm and it was done approximately 3AM. Just 12 hours instead of 25. Something is better. But this is still a problem because the previous 10 slideshows took about 3-5 hours and were much larger. (300-400 photos vs 97) I thought those exports were slow. Something has corrupted the process and made it too slow to use. I am looking for a replacement program for our next project. I will still use LR for processing my photos. The other features are still wonderful. Just not the slideshow feature. Thanks for your efforts. Jan

I am using Lightroom 6.8 (not CC) on a new Windows 10 (AU) Dell Inspiron 2 in 1, and the Slideshow "Export Video" works erratically. Sometimes it exports a 720p video just fine in 5-10 minutes (81 photos plus an 8 minute soundtrack), but most of the time the progress bar appears at the upper left of the Lightroom window, but no progress is ever displayed and Task Manager shows Lightroom using either 0% or 1% of CPU capacity.

I have tried re-starting Lightroom, re-starting Windows (that worked a couple of times), re-arranging a couple of photos in the slideshow, rubbing my lucky stone, etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated - thank you!

I am working on a slideshow with many photos-- a little over 700.  Many are very small photos but some are 5x7'' 300dpi jpgs.  No music.  I am running on a new iMac High Sierra (10.13.3) with a pretty clean 8gbs of memory.  My LR is up to date 7.2 Camera raw 10.2.  I hit export video and I did 1020.  I need to show this video on a TV.  I started it at 2pm today.  It is now almost 7:30 and it has barely moved.  The progress bar shows just a blip.  I can wait for some time but I need to know it's going to work and I'm pretty discouraged by it's progress.  Am I doing something wrong?

I have had this problem since 5 LR upgrades ago. It will finally work, but it will take forever. I believe they really don't care if the slideshow works or not. There are plenty of other programs out there that do a better job. I wish they would be honest about their mess up of changing what happens and the poor response to the export command. The good news, once it is finally exported. It will load to a dvd quickly.
