Lightroom rules for "select all"?

Are there rules for selecting all or is this another function that works sporadically? If I want to sync all from changes I've made to an image not at the beginning how do I select the others without losing my first?

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you select an image anywhere in the grid, and then press Cmd-A (Mac) or Ctrl-A (PC), all the images in the grid should become selected, and the originally selected image is still the 'most selected image'. That means you can now sync its settings to all the other images. Or is that not what you were asking?

I've got a couple of questions here and I'm wondering if they are both symptoms of overloaded processing even though CPU and Memory aren't showing it. I can use Cmd-A or file select all and it simply doesn't select. When I get the time I'm going to video screen capture for the other question and will for this as well. When I'm deep in my workload it simply stops responding on some commands.
