Lightroom: Publish to Flickr results in multiple errors

Lightroom 2015.3

Whenever I Publish a set of images to Flickr, after some (or none) of the images upload, I get this Error dialog:

Can't update this collection.

Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=4 "Line 1: Document is Empty" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Line 1: Document is Empty"

(see attached error dialog)

I have to dismiss the dialog and restart the publish. For example, to upload a collection of about 700 images to a new Flickr album, I got this error dozens of times. Sometimes no new images are uploaded between getting this error, sometimes a few or a dozen or 100 images successfully upload prior to getting the error again. Eventually, after many many manual restarts of the Publish operation, all get uploaded.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is flakiness on Flickr's end. A number of days ago I experienced the same issues publishing about 5300 photos -- it took several days of babysitting to get them uploaded. The problems happened both with the Flickr publishing service builtin to LR and with the third-party Flickr plugin http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-good..., which is more robust in the face of network problems.

Flickr has clearly gone downhill in the last year or so.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom 6.2.1: Updating Flickr photos stops with an XML error after every photo....

When updating photos in Flickr (photos that have been uploaded with previous versions of Lightroom) I get an XML error message after every image upload:

Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=64 "Line 2: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Line 2: XML declaration allowed only at the start of the document
}

This only happens with photos that I have uploaded before. If I try to repeat this behavior with a fresh upload (uploading 10 images, then marking them as modified, and then updating them) I get no error at all!

Very frustrating since I have hundreds of photos on Flickr that must be re-uploaded, since they were affected by the 6.1 Flickr upload bug, where persons keywords were exported.

The way to trigger this Flickr update bug:
1) Open Lightroom 6.2.1;
2) Select an existing Flickr album;
3) Select a couple of images, and mark them as modified;
4) Publish the Flickr album.

What will happen next:
5) Flickr export will start;
6) The first image will be updated (this can be checked in Flickr);
7) After the first image, the publish will fail with the stated error message.

All this on OSX 10.11.1, with a Flickr Pro account.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Flickr Publishing Service Not Working.

I have Lightroom 4 and regularly publish to Flickr via the plugin to share photos and create a backup. I did this just a couple weeks ago with zero problems. Today, multiple times I get the following message:
"Can't Update This Collection. An internal error has occurred: Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=4 "line 1: Document is empty"

HELP! I tried deleting the plugin and downloading it again. Still same error message appears. No clue what to do next.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled I'm suddenly unable to publish to Flickr "Can't Update This Collection".

Hi All-

On Lightroom 4.4 and trying to publish some new photos to Flickr and I'm getting the error message below:

An internal error has occurred: Error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain Code=4 "Line 1: Document is empty
" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Line 1: Document is empty
}

I'm on Mac, OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21)

The issue is new. I don't believe I've updated the system since the last time this feature worked successfully, which was probably a month or so ago. Haven't tried to do so since.

I've found loads of threads about this issue but I've been unable to find a solution. If somebody's found the solution to this, I'd be most appreciative for your help.

Thanks!

This error results from flakiness on Flickr's end.  It usually clears up in a day or two.  You can try complaining (along with dozens of others) on Flickr's help forum, but it probably won't do any good.  Yahoo has entered the death spiral, and the vultures are circling.

Thanks for the info, John. Obviously not the answer I had hoped for, but your guidance is massively appreciated and you've saved me a great deal of time trying to find some hidden, Grail-like answer out there. Cheers!
