Lightroom preview problems

So I am not technologically gifted, so here it goes. i have seen others have the problem where something along the lines of this pop up "The last time Lightroom ran, it shut down prematurely due to a problem reading the catalog. Lightroom must now check the catalog before proceeding." and I read that it had to do with a preview cache being saved by my normal catalog? Most people in other threads said it needed to be moved, renamed and then manually redone in lightroom. Does anyone have a step by step process to fix it?

Here we go:
1. Exit from Lightroom
2. Rename the folder where the LRCAT file resides
3. Create a new folder with the same name as the LRCAT folder
4. Move the LRCAT file from the renamed folder into your new folder
5. Start Lightroom and "Select a Different Catalog"
6. Navigate to the LRCAT file in the new folder and select it.
7. Lightroom should start.
8. Go to the Library menu and select the "Previews" choice and then select "Build Standard Previews"
9. Go have coffee and after a while depending upon the number of photos in the catalog it will be all set.
10. Delete the old renamed folder.

Yes, or when it asks you for Selected or All, choose All

Yes, you can do as you suggested and just rename the Previews folder and then follow the steps to create previews.
