Lightroom Mobile Sync Issues

Overall, I like Lightroom Mobile and how I can keep my iPhone pictures sync'd, but I have run into enough issues now that I have some questions. Here's my first issue I'd like to tackle:

  • On Lightroom Online (LrO) my stats show 311 photos which is the same as Lightroom Mobile (LrM), but Lightroom Desktop (LrD) "All Synced Photographs" only lists 293. Sure enough, sync is stuck on "Syncing 17 photos" (1 short of 311, but close enough I guess).
  • The strange part is that an image I took with LrM (APC_0257.dng) that is located on LrO, LrM, and LrD is the one listed at the top of the LrD "sync activity" dialog stuck in an "Uploading" Sync Type. Why would it be in Upload at all since I took it in LrM?
  • I click the "Asset Path/Link" link and hover over the ! icon on the APC_0257.dng thumbnail. It says "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. Error syncing with Lightroom mobile" If the file is in all three locations, how is there an error?
  • I think this one file is holding up the other 16 which have a "Pending" Sync Type and are images I took this weekend. All 16 of these are on LrO waiting to download.
What are the answers to the two questions posed above and how can I clear this error and get all three (LrM, LrO, and LrD) as close to the same total sync'd number (e.g. 311) as possible?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

Thanks for liking and using our product !!

To answer your questions :
The strange part is that an image I took with LrM (APC_0257.dng) that is located on LrO, LrM, and LrD is the one listed at the top of the LrD "sync activity" dialog stuck in an "Uploading" Sync Type. Why would it be in Upload at all since I took it in LrM?
Basically when Images download to LrD, it sends out a small notification to the cloud with Upload status on the new client. This is basically for a very small time, and this entry should be removed from the activity. Is there any error that you are getting for this entry when clicked on (Sync Details/Errors) ?

I click the "Asset Path/Link" link and hover over the ! icon on the APC_0257.dng thumbnail. It says "Lightroom has encountered problems reading this photo. Error syncing with Lightroom mobile" If the file is in all three locations, how is there an error?
Is this particular asset present in any collection called 'All Sync Errors' ?

I think this one file is holding up the other 16 which have a "Pending" Sync Type and are images I took this weekend. All 16 of these are on LrO waiting to download.

Actually since you say that all those 16 are on LrO waiting to download, it means that these files have not successfully uploaded from LrM to cloud (Hence it is waiting to be downloaded). Basically LrO knows that these assets are coming from LrM, (even though it is not fully uploaded to the cloud from LrM). That is the reason that LrO shows the actual count.

Is there any "uploading..."  text shown over the cloudy icon in LrM ?

However, in LrD it shows the actual count only when the images are actually downloaded. Hence you see the count in 'All Sync Photographs' lesser as compared to the other two clients.

If they are uploaded successfully from LrM to cloud (LrO), then eventually it is downloaded to LrD as well.

Thanks,
Arjun

Thank you for the thorough reply.

Answers to your questions in order
-If you mean when I click on it in the Sync Activity menu, the only time it does anything is when I click the Asset Path/Link link (it takes me to the picture in my catalog). Is that what you're asking?
-Yes, it's the only picture in the All Sync Errors collection
-No, the LrM says "All up to date"

Hi Adam,

I had a similar occurrence. I cleared it up by removing the images from any collections on LrD by identifying them in the Preferences->Lightroom Mobile->Sync Activity.

After they were removed and syncing seemed to stabilize, I simply added those assets back to the collections and they sync'd properly.

Might not be the same situation if you've added from LrM but maybe worth a try.

Good luck!

Hi Adam,

1) Can you click on the sync icon on that image in the 'All Sync Errors' collection. It would try to resync it.
2) Looks like the LrM has not yet fully uploaded the photos to cloud, as you cannot see it in LrO.
So I would suggest remove those images from LrM, and try to import them again in LrM. This should resync them back to cloud.
What is special in these 16 images ?

If you see the image in LrO, it means that the image has been successfully uploaded to cloud, and should start appearing in LrD sooner.

Thanks,
Arjun

1) I don't see a clickable sync icon anywhere on that images thumbnail. What sync icon?

2) All 17 of these pictures ARE on LrM and LrO. Only the one stuck in Upload is also already in LrD. Here is the breakdown:
  • IMG_4046.jpg - Imported from iOS Camera Roll, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD
  • IMG_4047.jpg - Imported from iOS Camera Roll, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Imported from iOS Camera Roll
  • IMG_4097.jpg - Imported from iOS Camera Roll, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Imported from iOS Camera Roll
  • APC_0257.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrM, LrO, and LrD, but stuck In Upload in LrD
  • APC_0344.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD
  • APC_0347.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0350.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0352.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0370.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0371.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0373.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0375.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0376.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0377.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0378.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0379.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM
  • APC_0380.dng - Taken in LrM, viewable in LrO, but stuck in Pending in LrD - Taken in LrM

How do you suggest I remove the images from LrM without losing them?

I agree with your last statement, but again, all 17 images are in LrO, but 16 of them are not appearing in LrD.

1) This is the sync icon I was talking about (Click on it for the image present in 'All sync error')

2) Try  this method to download the remaining 16 images to LrD

a) Quit Lightroom
b) Take a backup of the below folder (Sync.lrdata) in this location and then delete it

Win :
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata

or

Mac:
~Library\Caches\Adobe\Lightroom\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata

c) Relaunch Lightroom and then restart syncing
d) You will see the original number syncing down , but dont worry your older images will not sync down again. This numbers will reduce within some time.
e) Check if those images are downloaded back to LrD.

Please try this method.
If this does not work out, then I will tell you how to remove those 16 images from LrM .

Thanks,
Arjun

I did (2). Here are the results:

  • LrM - 314
  • LrO - 314
  • LrD - 313 and still the 1 sync error (see screenshot for what I see by that image still
And, most importantly, I can now see those 16 images in LrD. Thank you, but is the need to do this a known bug that the team is working on? If I need to fuss with this even occasionally, it starts to disrupt the seamless workflow concept, no?

Recommendations for the last 1?
