I am new to using Lightroom Mobile. After syncing the iPhone with the lap top the iPhone shows two files with the same pictures. The top one is Lightroom Photos and the bottom one under collections has the name of the collections folder from the laptop. What is the purpose of the upper file Lightroom on the iPhone.

The top one is the high resolution (what ever the resolution of your camera was).  It is in your Folders.  The bottom one is a Smart Preview (low resolution approx 2 mp).

The top Collection is an amalgamation of all collections currently active on Lightroom for Mobile.  The lower collection is a specific collection containing only the iPhone photos you've added to LR4M. Because you don't have additional collections in your mobile catalog, it isn't obvious what is happening.  As you create or sync additional collections, those collections will appear alphabetically in the Collections section. The Lightroom Photos at the top is a system collection that collects all of the photos in all the collections.

It gives you an easy place to find all synced photos without having to parse many collections looking for an image.

Thanks for the information. From the tutorials I saw on line they never showed the top folder.

When it comes to mobile Apps, the landscape moves very quickly. Interfaces evolve. Tutorials can become inaccurate or even become obsolete.
