Lightroom Mobile: Smart Preview Size

Just wondering ...

In Lightroom on the desktop, Smart Previews are sized at 2560 pixels on the long edge. We know that Smart Previews are used to sync to Lightroom Mobile. So why are images on LRmobile sized at a maximum of 2048 pixels, and not 2560?

Or are the Smart Previews used for syncing a different size from the ones used in the desktop environment?

The smart previews used for editing are 2560px, as you correctly said. The rendered JPEG previews it creates are 2048px, as that's the largest screen size for iPads (and I guess most tablets).

Thanks Victoria :-)

Seems a bit of a strange reason though ... there are devices with greater resolution than that (e.g. the 3-year-old Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 inch tablet, 2560 pixels), not to mention the viewing and downloading of images on computers via Lightroom On The Web. Not sure why Adobe would want to restrict the image to 2048 pixels for all applications, if in fact 2560 pixels are available.

Still, it is what it is, I guess.  If there are any Adobe engineers reading, please consider this an enhancement request!
