Lightroom Mobile, iPad & SD Card

Thank you so much for the opportunity to vent a little. :)

Background: I am a wildlife photographer and spend a lot of time photographing tiny birds at a distance. I rely heavily on cropping and rapid-fire shooting to actually get the shot I am after. This causes two serious issues in my workflow.

Because the vast majority of my shots are garbage, the current requirement to import all of the shots is a problem, especially when I am on location. It is not uncommon to fill 2 32GB SD Cards in a single morning in Costa Rica, for example. On a two week trip, that is a lot of importing. I know that you do not have to import everything, but (and this is another major issue) the default import thumbnails are way too tiny to see what I have to work with in a crop.

In the ideal world, I would be able to use Lightroom's Import function exactly as it is on my Mac. Plug in the SD card, set the images to a size I can see, and only import those I need to work with.

The necessity to use the internet to save selected photos is also problematic. I'd like to be able to select and edit photos on my computer and then store them back to a "culled images" SD card. Internet access in many of the places I go is sketchy or non-existent at best. (There is terrible cell service in Antarctica. <grin>). I had hoped to use my iPad as my travel "computer" but without the ability to prescreen and offload images, I am forced to take my computer along so I can use a hard drive, which is too bad. The actual functions internal to LR mobile on the iPad are very good.

Needless to say, the Apple ads claiming that the iPad can be my computer are a tad frustrating to me. :)
