Lightroom Mobile auto reloads when app focus is pulled away, edits lost

When editing a photo with LR Mobile on my Android devices, if an app pops up that removes focus from LR, when I switch back Lightroom reloads and I lose ALL edits from the last time I backed out to the grid view and came back into Edit. Basically it isn't syncing my edits and it restarts itself so I lose those edits. I have a medication reminder that pops up and I lose all edits EVERY TIME!!! It will also do this if I switch over to another app and forget to back out of the photo first. Say I want to change a Spotify song or respond to a message and come back to continue, LR will restart and I lose all non synced edits. Sometimes I have been working on these photos for awhile and it is quite painful to have lost all of my work. This is not something new. It has been going on since the beginning of me using LR Mobile.

My Android TABLET *STILL* restarts LR randomly, a LOT, when working, making it completely unusable. I lose all edits when this happens too. Nothing is synced until I back out of Edit it seems. This is really taking a mess on my day.

Hi Matt,

Apologies for the buggy experience. Although Lightroom might restart if you keep the app in background for longer duration, still restart of Lightroom should definitely not happen if you just switch to a messaging app. This generally happens if the battery optimisation or some specific settings in your device has the preference of killing any app as soon as it goes to background.

In case this is not fault of the preferences, I would like to understand your workflow. Can you please let me know what operations you perform which leads to restart and losing of your edits while switching to any app? Please provide below required additional information as well:
1. What is your device model name and Android OS version on it.
2. The issue is more reproducible on RAW images or non-RAW images.
3. Typically, which tools do you use mostly for editing your images.
4. Does this issue occur while doing any other operation like putting in keywords to images, starring / flagging images?

Lastly for the tablet issue, can you please confirm the model?

Regards,
Arnab

Hi Arnab,
I had not thought of battery optimization. I just turned that off for Lightroom and it seems to be preventing Lightroom restarts when I switch away for a bit. Quick switches between apps had no restarts, longer times away had only quick Lightroom splash screens with no apparent loss of edits. I added fake medications to my medication reminder and popups from that didn't make me lose any edits with popups either. Thank you!!!

1- My device is an LG G7 recently upgraded to Android 9, though it also happened with Android 8 and my old LG G6 with Android 7.0.

2- Happened with all formats that I use: TIFF, Nikon NEF RAW, jpg, camera phone generated DNG RAW

3- All except "Presets" and "Auto". Rarely "Geometry". Sometimes "Previous" super rarely. I don't always use all used tools on all photos.

4- I don't keyword using Lightroom Mobile anymore. Since I found out it doesn't transfer to Classic it has become completly worthless and a totally stupid feature. I know why it doesn't but I still find the reasoning stupid and a huge drawback to the ecosystem. I've wasted hours of my time keywording photos just to find out they didn't transfer. I'm commenting/following a thread about it. I don't remembered if it happened during starting / flagging, which I do use.

My tablet is an LG G Pad X 8.0 (LG-V521) with Android 7.0. I'd love to use the larger screen to edit on the go but it just isn't feasible with all the crashes and loss of edits. It happens the most during cropping but it will happen when doing anything. It is not a matter of it, but when and how many times.

Again, thank you for bringing up the battery optimization! I look forward to seeing if that works in the long run.

Hey Matt,

Great to hear that at least the initial issue on LG G7 is resolved by removing battery optimization and definitely let us know if you face any other hiccups.

Still as I mentioned, rarely you might encounter the edit loss issue if OS abruptly terminates Lightroom from background or if you face a crash while editing images.

Now moving onto the issue with your tablet, I would like to know that is your workflows similar to what you described for your phone (i guess yes, still would be good to confirm)?
As you mentioned that Lightroom on your tablet crashes randomly while editing, i guess this is due to to Out Of Memory errors (these crashes are random and occurrence will be dependent on available resources) and thus would like to have a look at the diagnostic logs. Please find below the steps to generate the logs:
  1. Enable the Diagnostic mode i.e. Go to Settings Panel and long press on top left “Lr” icon (this will enable “Send Feedback” button on Settings Panel).
  2. Now edit few images until Lightroom crashes.
  3. Open Lightroom, reopen settings panel and tap on “Send Feedback” button at the end.
  4. Within few seconds a sharing sheet will open - send across the logs using mail or drive. Please provide a description of the issue (it will help us in tracking).

Regards,
Arnab
