You haven't told us what kind of problem you had.

Hi.  I tried to edit my post immediately after I made it but the web-site was unresponsive...

I upgraded from LR5 to LR6 recently.  Last weekend I inadvertently opened LR5 instead of LR6 (I had a quick-launch shortcut, which has now been remedied) and I made a bunch of changes to photos and moved them to different folders.  A few days later I opened LR6 and found that a lot of files said "The file could not be found."  Clearly my fault, but it would have been nice if the upgrade process prevented me from opening a superseded software version (I hate to use the i word but I'm pretty sure this wouldn't happen with iTunes).  It might have been possible to re-open LR5, move the photos back to their previous locations and then open LR6, but I made changes to lots of photos in lots of folders and could not have reversed all the moves I made, so I'm resigned to the loss of several hours of work that I'll discover bit by bit over the next few months.

So this was just intended as a warning.  Consider uninstalling the previous version of LR when you upgrade to prevent possibly making a mess of your catalog.  The LR upgrade process does not do that for you.  I went into Control Panel/Programs and Features and found that I currently have three versions of LR installed, which is a waste of disk space and a potential mess...
