Lightroom CC: Error: "Whoops! we weren't able to move all of your photos" and "your database disk image is malformed"

When I open lightroom it tells me "Whoops! we weren't able to move all of your photos" and "your database disk image is malformed" it gives me 3 options to try again, wait a week, or ignore. But when I click any option, it won't load any of my other photos, just keeps buffering.

Was your account fully synced before you attempted to store your originals at the new path?

When you add images within Lightroom CC for desktop, it puts them on your hard drive and then syncs them with the cloud. 

Do you know if that sync started? Completed? Does the error message prevent you from accessing the cloud icon in the upper right?

Ok. 

Let's try this.

  • Close Lightroom
  • In your Mac's Finder, locate your Pictures folder
  • You will have a file in the Pictures folder called "Lightroom Library.lrlibrary"
  • Right-click on this file and select "Show Package Contents"
  • One of the folders inside should be a string of characters - expand this folder
  • Select "Managed Catalog.mcat" and rename it to Managed Catalog.old
  • Exit Finder
  • Launch Lightroom CC for desktop.
When you relaunch, Lightroom CC should attempt to sync your catalog from the cloud back to the desktop. After the catalog syncs back, it should attempt to sync any images you've added to Lightroom to the could. This could take some time. 

Risk: There is a small possibility that editing work to unsynced images may be lost in this process. Those unsynced edits, if any, can be found in the Managed Catalog.old but as it is malformed, they may not be recoverable. 

Let me know if this clears the error message.

This did bring all of my old photos back! But unfortunately I've lost all photos of the album I was currently working on... 

The software is running really slow and it was before this whole mess. Why is that and how can I fix?

You will probably need to reimport that current album as its existence was never aware to the cloud from where we did the restoration. 

Glad we are making progress.
