LightRoom installation error. Customer support useless.

I have Windows 10. LightRoom has been installed, uninstalled, and re-installed on my computer by myself and four Customer Support technicians, and the result has been the same:  I get an error message "Installation successful.  Patch failed," and the software cannot be updated.  I have spent hours on the phone and in chats with customer support, and they seem baffled.  Also, every time they re-install Lr, I cannot toggle between "Library" and "Develop" modes.  If I choose a photo in Library, and go to Develop, it gets stuck in the blue-circle loop, and I have to restart the program to use it.  Help!
