Lightroom edit in photoshop does not work with .NEF or .dng files

I cannot use edit in photoshop with lightroom .nef or .dng files.
I have tried several methods to alleviate this problem to no avail.
I am currently on Lightroom 2015.7 cc/Camera Raw 9.7 and PS 2014 Camera/Raw 9.7
This is after trying the most current versions, uninstalling all adobe software and preferences and loading older apps on the system with no change in success.
I have tried launching PS first  and the lightroom with no luck.
LR will edit jpeg, tiff and psd files in photoshop but not .nef or .dng.
I set up Mac Preview as an alternate editor and all files will launch in that app.
I have tried changing to tiff and psd both in the outside editor settings to no avail.
Any help or solutions would be appreciated.

First stop: Preference reset.

Close Lightroom and Photoshop. Hold down [Cmd]+[Opt] and launch Lightroom. Overwrite the preference file when prompted. Restart your Mac. Open Lightroom. Attempt to do the Edit in operation.

Did it work this time?

I had tried this before but just did it again. No change in results. Some more info I can add that I just became aware of is that no files will open in PS if is choose "open a copy with lr adjustments'. In addition, nef and dng files do not bring up the dialog box at all.

Camera Model creating the NEF/DNG?

Photoshop version is CC2014? Any reason you are not using CC 2017?

Nikon D300 and D3300

I am on 14 simply because I removed the newer applications and all adobe preferences in hopes that the issue appeared during one of the updates as the newer versions didn't work either. I can go back up to those versions, but they give the same results.

What is the behavior. Error Message? Nothing happens? Photoshop opens as a blank?

If photoshop is not open, the application opens but no file is opened and the system remains in lightroom with photoshop in the background. If Photoshop is already open, nothing happens they system just stays in the lightroom application.

Have you reset Photoshop's preferences too - or just Lightroom's?

I have deleted all copies of Photoshop from my hard disk except the current one. I have no external drives but I will try that plug-in to see if it changes anything.

That didn't change anything.

Thanks for testing that, Baron. I have escalated your issue and an agent should be in direct contact with you shortly.

So Adobe spoke with me yesterday. Determined it was a firewall issue and everything began working fine. Today, it worked for half the day, then stopped.
