Lightroom: Does not communicate to a personal server (win 7)

Lightroom is not compatible with a server system. I have a personal server of 20Tb in an effort to contain my extensive photography library. It is obvious that I cannot contain that kind of data on my desktop so I have chosen a personal server. My problem is that Lightroom will not communicate with my server and the images contained on my sever. I have a workaround but it is not robust. I really need Lightroom to communicate directly with the server. I am using LR 5.71 on a PC, Windows 7

While you cannot locate your LR catalog on a server; you can readily reference in the catalog, image files located on a server - unless something is wrong with your network connection.

So if that doesn't work for you, then I think your network connection isn't setup properly. How exactly are you specifying those image file locations ?

I currently use a solid state HD for the speed advantage. I therefore store only the operating system and software on the hard drive. All data is on the Server including the .lrcat files.
I believe that your recommendation is to move the .lrcat files to the HD and retain all the image files on the server? Using that option, I worry about the size of the .lrcat files.
