DNGs created by Photo Merge > Panorama are incompatible with OS X Quick Look, which isn't able to display their thumbnails or preview them.  However, DNGs created by Photo Merge > HDR and Library > Convert Photo To DNG are compatible with Quick Look:

Rather than just point fingers at Apple, it would be great if Adobe could identify the source of the incompatibility and work with Apple to fix it or, heaven forbid, actually work around it.  It's probably easy to work around, given that HDRs are compatible while Panoramas are not.  (And, as improbable as it sounds, it might even be a bug in LR!) We all know the likely outcome of finger-pointing...

I don't know the DNG format very well, but Exiftool didn't show any obvious differences between the file internals.

Tested on LR CC 2015.8 / OS X 10.12.3.

Let us know if you're still having troubles with current versions of Lightroom/Camera Raw and current version of Mac OS. Bug was marked as CNR after 6.10.
