When starting Lightroom Classic in Catalina there is a very short time the first window (title window) is shown and than the application crashes.

I tried to download version 9.1 but after starting the installer ill will block at 6% download.

What can I do to get it working again?

Ovidiu,

I took a look at the email address you use on this forum and do not find any crash reports attributed to you under Classic 9.1 0r 9.0. If you use a different email address or an older version, I would not find it with this search.

Do you get a crash dialog? Is the dialog Apple or Adobe?

Regarding your installation stall, what version of the Adobe Creative Cloud App are you currently using?

Dear Rikk,

thanks for the reply. I do not know the version. I see the app file is simply called Adobe Lightroom and is dated 30 Sept 2016, if that is of any help. Used to work till moving to Catalina and a new Macbook Pro.

I do not get any Apple nor any Adobe dialog. I start the app, the title window flashes very shortly on the screen and than the app closes without saying anything.

I tried to download from Adobe site the Classic 9.1 on my Macbook Pro. I downloaded the installer, started it and started showing the installation procentages. It went to 6% and stoped there for a long time. Had to kill the process to close it.

Removed email addresses

Lightroom Classic (7.0) was released in 2017. Your application file sounds like it might be an older version from the Lightroom 6.x time frame (or possibly CC2015.x).  Neither of which are supported on Mac Catalina.

Make sure your Creative Cloud App is up to date (5.0.0.363 should be the latest) Restart your computer and try the install again.

If you are still unable to download and install, you would need to be reported to our Creative Cloud App team at this address: https://creativecloud.uservoice.com/ or by contacting Adobe Customer Care: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

To be clear, LR 6, like Rikk said, doesn't work in Catalina because it's 32-bit, and from Catalina forward all apps have to be 64-bit. As to the installer error, try a clean up:

Download the free Onyx (https://www.titanium-software.fr/en/onyx.html), select the Onyx version for your OS, (Catalina) download, run it, reboot.

In Onyx run almost everything in the Maintenance tab, deselecting things you may not want deleted, like Launch Services . Hit the "Options" button across from Internet and deselect more stuff like Cookies & Other Site Data, Browser History, Form Values, etc. (most of these are OFF by default). If you don’t know what something is, google it, or don’t run it, or ask me), then hit Run Tasks. After it's done it will ask for a reboot.

You'll need to uncheck remove prior versions when installing the new versions of Lightroom, or use the Cleaner Tool to remove older versions that aren't compatible with Catalina: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
