I just updated Lightroom Classic to v9.3. The update appeared to complete successfully. However, now when I try to launch it I get an error message stating that VCRUNTIME140_1.dll is missing.

Please advise on a resolution asap as I cannot start Lightroom at all.

As per what Claus said.... there seems to be an "easy" fix by installing it manually. See vid here with positive comments https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5pjAWai384

Thanks Claus and Jerry. I watched the video and looks easy.

Claus, I noticed that the file available for download is "VCRUNTIME140.dll" instead of "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll". Did you use that one anyway as they instruct?

Cheers, Frank

Frank, sorry, my attention to detail was lacking a bit at late hours. To be honest, I just googled the dll and found loads of vids so chose one. I just did the same again and found another https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2mZ44V2dow. If you do the same in YouTube, you'd find others that you may prefer.

Could you make sure that you updated to the latest Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app before installing the new Lightroom update? The latest Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app should stage the MS VC runtime libraries as a prerequisite for LrClassic 9.3.

Also it is possible that you have some 3rd party Lr plug-in that requires this dll that Lr no longer provides out-of-the-box.

Is this a problem on Mac or PC?   And bugginess has been a problem since the change from v5.x to v6.x.  Something radical changed at that point.  Simon, is there ever any discussion about this at Adobe?  Perhaps a more disciplined approach is needed?   Or a more diligent beta testing program going?   Lightroom is the only program where I wait weeks before downloading the new version.

I downloaded the dll from here: https://www.dll-files.com/vcruntime140_1.dll.html
The dll goes into the same folder as lightroom.exe is located

Hi,

We would recommend downloading and installing VCRuntime from Microsoft's website. Here are instructions for the same.
  1. Click this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
  2. Under the Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019 section on this page, download the following executable file:
    x64: vc_redist.x64.exe
  3. Run the downloaded executable file.
  4. Restart your computer.
Please let us know if this does not work.

Thanks Smit. Running vc_redist.x64.exe resolved the issue. LR 9.3 now launches and appears to be working correctly. Much appreciated.

Also, could you share "System Info" from Lightroom Classic (Lightroom Classic > Help > System Info) in a text file with us?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. In the end I went with Smit's suggestion, which worked.

I was hesitant to try some of the suggestions because there were inconsistencies between them. Some said I should download the x86 library in addition to the x64 one from MS. Some said I needed to also install Visual Studio 2013. And its always risky downloading binary code from 3rd parties claiming to have the MS files.

Smit & Simon, I'd be interested in finding out where the failure was in installation. If the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app needed updating, surely a safe strategy for Adobe would be that it checks for its own update before proceeding to download other app updates?

Anyway, thanks everyone.

I'm having the exact same problem here. I will try following Smit's suggestions too.
