Lightroom Classic CC: Current Import photos not showing until completely downloaded from card

In past versions of Lightroom before CC Classic, when importing images from a memory card, the images would transfer and thumbnails and images were visible as they came in under Current Import. Now it seems the behavior is it will not show anything until the transfer of ALL images is complete, then they all of a sudden appear all together at once. I do not see anything in preferences besides the 'Generate previews in parallel' under the performance tab. That seems to have no affect. Can you confirm if this is a new behavior for Current Import? If so, I must say that I prefer the old way much better as I could begin to view and assess images as the import was going on. If it's not supposed to work like that , can you please suggest a fix?

I'm seeing a delay of about 12 seconds before images appear in the Library grid with a memory card import, but still with many files yet to transfer. With previous LR versions there was almost no delay. Not  sure why you see no images until they are all copied to HDD. Do you have the below Preference setting checked? If so you could try resetting your LR Preferences file.

Thanks Todd, I appreciate your response, yes, I've tried that selected and unselected both. It seems all that option does is take you from your current folder to the current import (as it was in the past). Deselecting it seems to just keep you in your current working folder during import.

Yes, that's all it is supposed to do. I suggest resetting your LR Preferences file as described at the below link. Close LR, move the current Preferences file to your desktop so you can easily restore, and then restart LR.

Ronald please tell us about your specific issue, what you have tried, and what type of files you are importing. The more details the better we can help.

Tried resetting prefs and it is still not working. Trying to download a card with 1300 images on it and it is taking forever and showing no thumbnails. Progress bar however shows progress but no images until it completes. 1300 images takes a while and this is a bit frustrating. Any other suggestions? I also tried disabling graphics accelerator thinking that might affect it - nothing. I noticed also that whether or not I select the option in prefs to create previews in parallel it seems to that no matter what.

Thanks Bruce, didn't see your thread. Sounds like the exact same issue I'm having. You're on Windows it sounds like and I'm running an iMac 3.4 Ghz - 32 GB RAM  HighSierra latest version. Hopefully a fix is on the way for this.

Yes, I think there is definitely a problem and I believe it may be related to larger catalogues. The new import process works  really well for me with new or small catalogues on both my laptop and desktop Macs. The previews start appearing instantly and the whole import process is much faster than 2015.12 . But my main large catalogue of 177,000 images behaves in a very similar way to what you describe and I've tested it on both machines. My experience and testing suggests it can't be related to hardware or software and the preference settings  are the same so it has to be catalogue specific. I suppose it could be some other issue relating to that particular catalogue but everything has worked fine for years and this has only happened since upgrading to Classic. In every other respect the catalogue is fast in Classic and seems happy. There are a number of similar threads on this and other forums suggesting the issue relates to large catalogues . I have posted more details in a reply to Bruce's thread above.
