Lightroom Classic 7.3: Profiles missing in Basic; Presets don't work; ID plate shows Lightroom 6

Have just upgraded to Lightroom Classic CC 7.3 on Windows 10. I do not see the Profiles section in my Basic panel. I can see from other posts where it is supposed to be but it simply does not show up at all. Have uninstalled and re-installed 7.3 with the same sad result. System Info and screen dump appear below.

If you don't don't have a Cloud subscription for Lightroom, then you can't update to a Cloud version.

I can't find the profiles browser too. the old presets can't be used in the develop tab

OK...I also thought that an upgrade to LR Classic 7.3 had removed visibility of my custom camera (camera/lens combo) profiles. As I recall those profiles were selectable under the Calibration pane of the Develop module. 
I have just noticed that the profiles are still accessible, however they now appear to me to be more obscurely located, in that they now appear in a 'Profile:' line at the top of the Basic pane n the Develop module.

Good clue!  Reset preferences. I've seen another case of Lightroom 7 that though it was Lightroom 6 in the past, and that did the trick. Worth a shot!  How do I reset Lightroom’s Preferences?

I saw another case like this the other day, which was also showing the wrong splash screen. There's something weird for it to get into this state.

I also upgraded my LR 6 perpetual licence to 7.1 then 7.2, then 7.3. I never selected a trial or took up a subscription. I've been running this way since January. After having problems with 7.3, the Adobe engineers told me the above was impossible. Anyhow, when they accessed my PC remotely, they uninstalled 7.3 and went back to LR 6. Now I can't move to 7.3 without taking out a subscription, so I've lost all my edits (hundreds!) since January because of the catalogue change. Nice.
I recall some time ago printing out the system info as in the posts above, and I too had both version "7.1" and "License: Perpetual". I assumed that was OK, but it seems it was an error on Adobe's part. It makes me even less inclined to ever take up a subscription, especially with this company.

I think the problem is from the initial update fro LR 6 to LR Classic. 

I would do a complete uninstall of LR and then rund the cleaner tool from adobe - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

and then reinstall LR Classic

Remember to backup your presets.

Ernest, I see you just started a membership today. Try quitting Lightroom, then try signing out and signing back into your creative cloud app.

I upgraded to the Adobe Lightroom Classic7.3, but I met so many issue, not like before.

  1. The profiles browser should be in the Basic, but It's still in the Camera Calibration. 
  2. In the develop module, when I select a preset in Prsets, I can see the change in the Navigator, but I can't see any change.
Do you have the same issue?

Bingo, you definitely have the same problem as others in this thread. Lightroom Classic is only supposed to install for users with a monthly subscription. It shouldn't even let you install for a perpetual license. You're only licensed for Lightroom 6, not this version, which is why it's not working. We have yet to find out how Adobe are going to help though, as it's their fault it let you install it.

Because of this issue, I can't use the lightroom. I don't know when the Adobe can fix this issue.

Right now your best solution is to either:

1. Sign up for a monthly subscription to use Lightroom Classic. You'd probably need to sign out and sign back into the CC app to make sure it's recognized.

2. Go back to the Lightroom 6 version you paid for - however you won't be able to open your current catalog in Lightroom 6, as you upgraded the format. You'd need to write your recent edits out to the files, go back to the Lightroom 6 catalog from before you upgraded, and then read the metadata from the files. That would carry over most of your edits.

Hi Christian. We can see from the screenshots in your other thread that you're suffering from this issue. The one detail we don't know is whether you have a current subscription (that we can hopefully help you fix) or whether you have a Lightroom 6 license (see my reply to Xinchuan for solutions).

In that case you'll have to uninstall Lightroom, reinstall Lightroom 6 and update it to 6.14 again. Did you see a message that your catalog was upgraded? If so, this catalog can't be used with Lightroom 6. You'll have to find the old one (the upgraded catalog is a copy, so the old catalog should still be in your catalog folder too). If you rename the 'catalogname previews.lrdata' to match the old catalog name, they will be used again with the old catalog too.

Thanks for the support. After reinstalling Lightroom 6 and update to 6.14, I can edit my pictures again. Since I've used Lightroom Classic 7. x, I've worked about 3000 images. The processing has unfortunately been lost due to the lack of compatibility of the catalogues.

Do you still have the Classic install and catalog Christian? If so, you can write most of the metadata to the files (Metadata menu > Write Metadata to Files) and read it back in the LR6 catalog (Metadata menu > Read Metadata from Files). Just be careful to only read the files you've written.

I found my camera profiles in dmg profile editor and reimported them but they are corruoted and don't work

OK...I also thought that an upgrade to LR Classic 7.3 had removed visibility of my custom camera (camera/lens combo) profiles. As I recall those profiles were selectable under the Calibration pane of the Develop module.
I have just noticed that the profiles are still accessible, however they now appear to me to be more obscurely located, in that they now appear in a 'Profile:' line at the top of the Basic pane n the Develop module.

I have the same issue! It always says "profile missing". Then I can re-select it from the list, and all is good, but it doesnt save the profile correctly to my preset, nor does it copy/paste it to other pictures.... SUPER annoying.

  • Could you share the screenshot of the System Info (Help-->System Info) dialog from Lightroom Classic CC 7.3 or 7.3.1?
