Lightroom Classic 9.3 local adj tools no longer updating on the fly; also LrC crashing all the time

Updated to 9.3, and worked ok for a few days. Now suddenly I have two problems:

1. all the local adjustment tools (brush, radial, etc) use an old setting (eg exposure -.5) when used, as I see it on the photo. When I leave the tool, it only then adjusts to the new setting on the photo. Almost impossible to use effectively.

2. probably unconnected, LrC is crashing multiple times as I'm adjusting a photo.

Check how you've got your preferences set as outlined below. This is pretty new, maybe you have a preset for the minus exposure etc?

Crashing, try resetting your preferences:

I'm a bit worried about resetting preferences. Besides having to re-point to the catalog, will I lose anything else (presets, collections, ratings, etc)?

I did try purging the video and camera raw caches, since it seems like maybe something was stuck there, but that didn't work. I also tried re-generating the preview, but that didn't work either. It's very strange. I use the brush, and it always lowers exposure (that was what I had set last), and darkens the image, even if when I'm using the brush I have exposure raised. Then if I click out of the brush tool, I see the correct (lighter, in this case) image correction.

Arghh! I found the problem with the local adjustment tools! Somehow the tool overlay was set to black and was always on. So no matter the setting, it looked like the image was darkening. I reset the overlay and all is good now!! User error!!

The crashing problem is another matter. Only happened once today, so I'll see how it goes.

Andy,

I find two crash reports in the system. One calls out a missing font as the issue.  Did you manually delete any fonts?  You might try a uninstall/reinstall of Lightroom Classic 9.3 to see if affects your crashing.

Thanks, Rikk. I didn't delate any fonts that I know of. I was thinking about doing the uninstall and install. It crashed once this week. If it keeps up like that, I'll go ahead and do it.
