Lightroom Classic 8.1: Terrible performance

Ever since upgrading to 8.1 it is basically unusable. Every single change (spot removal, brush stroke, etc.) causes the screen to go black, a spinny wheel to show, and the app to say it's not responding. It comes back eventually, but one given task (make a spot removal spot and move it to see where it looks best) could take 6 screen blackouts and 5 minutes. It would have been seconds in the 7.x version I was using. WHAT HAPPENED? I even got the blue screen of death today during one blackout! I haven't seen that thing in like 5 years a couple of computers ago.

Every time I upgrade this software there's some other problem. It's such garbage. I'm on a PC, Win 10 64-bit, 16GB RAM, SSD, i7-7500 processor 2.7GHz.

It should not take me an hour to process one photo that used to take about 7 minutes!

I ONLY use 8.1 to process RAW files from my LUMIX 100 II.  i export them to LR CC 2015.14 RAW 10,1.  It is very stable and the Auto preset doesn't mess with saturation and vibrance.  I know this is a very old shoe, but it feels fine.

Uninstall LR 8.1 using the Creative Cloud app, shut down your system, restart, and then reinstall LR 8.1. Try again.

On my Windows 10 system, LR8 forgot how to import images, so I cleared my preferences etc. After that, performance was about as you describe - absolutely atrocious.
Luckily, after a second reset, it got a bit better, although increasing my RAM by 16GB and adding a second SSD just for the catalogue and previews slowed it down a bit again! If only this program was dependable on ...   I also bought a new graphics card, but haven't installed it yet - I'm wondering if that'll slow it down even more again!!!

I'm running LR 8.1 on a Windows 10 system with zero, nada, no issues! Did you try my suggestion above? If so and no joy take a look these suggestions:

Windows should only blue screen with hardware or low level driver issues. Between that and the black screen, I'm thinking an issue with the graphics card or its driver.
