Lightroom: Change Facebook plugin to give a more perspicuous error when you try to publish

The Facebook plugin should give a more sensible error message when a user tries to set up a Facebook publish service.  Right now she can authorize but gets "Can't Save Changes: No album selected" at the bottom.  Huh?

It would be better to pop up an error:

"As of August 2018, Facebook no longer allows upload of photos and videos from third-party Desktop apps like Lightroom.  See here for more details: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/facebook-publish-service-error.html"

Here's the most recent victim of this confusion:

I guess the plugin can't be removed entirely, because people still want access to their existing published collections.

Does this apply to Instagram since Facebook owns it?

At least one third-party plugin can still publish to Instagram: https://www.lrinstagram.com/

I tried this plugin yesterday and it seemed nonfunctional at the time.

Your best best is to contact the developer. Instagram provides no support for third-party apps, and the developer struggles to keep up with changes to their service. But many people do use the plugin.

I have emailed the developer and will report back their answer. Thank you.

They've got a note half way down that page that says "Service Note: Instagram has updated their protocol and currently plugin does not work. We are investigating the issue and the plugin will be updated when a fix is available."

The developer added that in the last day or so, good.

Seven weeks later, and the LR/Instagram plugin's download page is still reporting that it's still not working with Instagram. This suggests the developer hasn't been able to reverse engineer their latest network protocol:

As an inconvenient workaround, you can export photos from LR and then use an app or Web browser to upload to Instagram:
