Lightroom CC: Unusably slow after December update

I just updated lightroom CC to 1.1 (20171201-1016-60550c6 Build). I guess I was hoping for improved performance, but now it's ten times worse, no exaggeration.  Trying to move photos from one album to another was always slow and painful.  Now it rarely works, or if it does it takes a long, long time for even one or two pictures. It takes a minimum of 15 seconds to copy  a picture from one album to another and then another 15 seconds to remove it from the first album. I'm on a 100G broadband connection with Intel i7 8 core processor. My CPU usage is pretty low.  So whatever is happening behind the scenes, it's not using much in the way of resources on my machine. It's the service that's slow.

Just switching from one image to another in the photo grid takes a few seconds before the "Info" panel is updated for the selected image.

I've had similar problems. Also with scrolling through a bunch of images for the first time after syncing is complete. Could scroll through the film stip but the main image could take 15-20 seconds to catch up. Also when going backwards to the previous image I just had open it could take some time to catch up.

At the same time I've also had a lot of disk activity that goes on for 30mins-1hr after syncing has finished. If I quit LRCC, disk activity stops and doesn't start up again after reopening LRCC. LRCC and computer are very slow doing this disk activity (it's not indexing, have checked that).
