Lightroom CC hanging when using Adjustment Brush

My Mac hangs when I use the Adjustment Brush, progressively more as I add brushes in a single photo edit. This is my Mac:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk: 1TB SSD
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I've been using Lightroom for about a year now but only recently discovered the true power of the Adjustment Brush. It's now driving me crazy with the hanging! I'm having to Force Quit often. I thought my RAM and SSD upgrade would fix this but no such luck. In my on-line searching I see that many people are experiencing this problem, so it's not just me. Please don't tell me I have to upgrade my computer! Surely there must be a software fix for this, and hopefully it'll be in the next upgrade. BTW, my OS is El Capitan and my Lightroom is the latest version.

Try turning off the GPU acceleration from the user preference dialog. See https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html. The GPU on the machine might be under powered, especially if you brush a lot.

My GPU acceleration is already turned off. So happens I can't turn it on. When I click the "Use Graphics Acceleration" box I get this message, "Graphics processor acceleration has been disabled due to error". By clicking the "Learn More" link I see a list of Unsupported Graphics Cards for Macs and this card, Intel HD 3000/4000, is at the bottom of the list. Does this include my card, the Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB? Is the code for running the Adjustment Brush relying too much on the Graphics Card? This question is coming from someone who knows very little about writing code for photo editing software.

In that case. it is better to leave the GPU accerleration unchecked. Can you copy-n-paste the system info from Lightroom Help>System Info... here? What you experiences is certainly not typical. Is there any thing special about your setup?
