Lightroom CC: crop tool sluggish and slow

in Lightroom CC the Crop Tool (R) is much more sluggish and unsteady to use as it was in LR 5.
That's really disappointing cause I not only don't see any acceleration and performance enhancements of LR CC but it even is more sluggish to work with.

Something strange is happening when using crop tool repeated during Lightroom 6 work even in different pictures. Suddenly a "crop blue screen of death" shows instead of the picture:

Anything to do with this?

I have to close the Lightroom 6 session and start again...until I get it again :-(

This X means the video card/driver is returning an error to LR.

LR 6 started using the GPU for faster Develop module performance and it is on by default, but if you are having issues like this, turn it off in LR / Prefs / Performance.

Someone yesterday said they had this problem because they were also using PS at the same time, and PS also uses the GPU and perhaps LR and PS are getting in each other's way or maybe your video card has less memory and it is running out partway through your editing session.

Instead of restarting LR try just turning off the GPU then turn it back on to see if it'll work for a while longer. If that isn't enough to reset things or you prefer not to have it happen, then turn off the GPU permanently.

Depending on how old or new and slow or powerful your video card is there may be a benefit to having LR use the GPU (at least in between when it shows the X) or it may be worse like the original post is describing.

Even if disabling makes sense it might be worth reenabling it once when you update LR or update your video card drivers in case the situation is improved by the update.
