LightRoom cc clasic fails to open

I am having constant problems with LightRoom now CC Classic.

I have turned off the GPU acceleration. I am on Windows 10 64 bit with a CC account.

LightRoom has always crashed a lot often on start I get a failed to read from thumbs data base message. Recently my catalogue failed to open after backing up.

Now I can not open light Room at all after the last data bank back up on closing. When I click I just see the blue circle rotate for a few seconds then nothing.

I have updated my drivers and java but still no joy.

I have a lot of data in there and do not want to start over.

Can you help please?

Hi David,

Which version of LR are you using?
Does Lightroom open when you choose different catalogue?

As I couldn’t open LightRoom classic the latest version (7.0.1 Release with camera Raw 10.0) I could not change the catalogue, the only option was to close all ruining lightroom tasks with “task manager” de-install with remove all options, then reinstall and set up a new catalogue.

It now runs, but often has to be opened twice as the first time I get the message the there is an error reading previews and that I must restart to be repaired. GPU acceleration is disabled.

Next time it starts OK.

I am very nervous about allowing backups now as this is what seems to causer the problem.

I noticed that there were 6 versions of the lightroom.lrcat (lightroom-6.lrcat ) file on my hard drive. Lightroom seems to create complete new versions. They were all corrupted and could not be repaired when I tried to open them. The latest version just put Lightroom into a never-ending cycle and I had to repeat the de-install process to be able to open LightRoom again.
I have now made a new cat in a clean folder and will see what happens. Not yet had the courage to allow a back up.
