Which specific OS version are you using?

I'm trying to get information so our testers can attempt to reproduce the problem.

OK, try disabling GPU support in Lightroom and restarting the app.
MacOS 10.10 has several video driver bugs that Apple is still working to solve.
If the slowdown disappears with the GPU off, that narrows down the possible causes (but there are still more MacOS bugs that could also explain it).

For what it's worth, I have a similar trouble using Win 8.1, with or without mask overlay, the adjustment brush is much slower whith GPU turned on than off :( My specs:

LR CC
Win 8.1 / i7 930@2.80 / 20GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 750 2 gb ddr5

The same is true for me on a Win7 desktop. The brush is OK in LR5.7. In LR6 it's very hard to use due to the lagging behind the mouse. Turning GPU off speeds it up just a tiny bit.
Machine is an i5-2400@3.1GHz, 16GB RAM, AMD R9 270X 2GB
