Lightroom always gets stuck while syncing to mobile

I am running Lightroom CC 2015.7 on Windows 7.  I have a catalogue with 1,356 photos spread out over 4 collections.  All four collections are synced with Lightroom mobile.  After syncing the first ~100 photos, it stopped and has been hanging on "syncing 1,207 photos" for hours.


This is not a new problem.  I have had this happen with every single catalog I've created over the last few weeks.  I will always have to force Lightroom to restart multiple times for syncing to fully complete. 


I spent 90 minutes on the phone with Adobe support today.  Steps we took to solve the problem:

- sign out and back into Lightroom

- sign out and back into creative cloud

- pause and restart syncing in the catalog

- pause and restart syncing on the collections

- pause and restart syncing in the creative cloud desktop app

- delete all synced cloud data and start over

- delete syncdata in \AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches

- delete everything in the Windows temp folder

- disable everything in startup and disable all non-Windows services

- check the hosts file for anything that could be interfering with communication with adobe servers


Nothing has fixed the problem.  I just tried switching computers and syncing photos from a brand new laptop running Windows 10, everything recently installed for the first time.  The laptop exhibits the same exact behavior.  Files begin to sync as they should, and then it just stops and hangs at a certain point. 


Syncing between desktop and mobile has been very inconsistent for quite some time.  I use an iPad pro to cull my images using pick flags and star ratings.  As an example, lets say I gave 5 stars to 150 images, and a "picked" flag to 500 images.  When I open Lightroom on my desktop and create smart collections for "5 star" images and "picked" images, it will show 100 with 5 stars and 300 flagged as picked (made up numbers, but it's always off by a lot).  I will need to sign out and back in and restart Lightroom multiple times for it to show all of my ratings/flags. Sometimes, I can't get it to completely sync all of my ratings/flags no matter how many times I restart, sign in/out, delete the cache, etc. 


One last note in case it's relevant -- I currently have Lightroom open and it is still stuck on "syncing 1,207 photos".  When I try any online gaming, there is a fair amount of lag.  As soon as I close Lightroom, the lag stops.  I have Verizon FIOS 100mbps up/down, normally never any problems with lag.  There isn't any data being uploaded to the adobe servers, because it's just hanging at 1,207 photos permanently, yet it seems to be causing lag while gaming that goes away immediately after closing Lightroom.  Very odd. 

 

Thank you in advance for any suggestions -- I'm at a loss of what to try next!

Working on the assumption that a single file is hanging and preventing the others from syncing. 

If you go to Preferences>Lightroom mobile on your Lightroom for desktop, does the Pending syncs show you any errors? Anything?

Hi Rikk,

Thanks for responding.  Pending sync doesn't show any errors, just a list of the files waiting to sync.  If I close lightroom and reopen it, sometimes it will resume syncing for a handful of photos, but it will inevitably get stuck again.  I'll have to restart multiple times and use some of the other steps from my original post before everything will sync.

How long have you left the sync process going without observing any movement? An  hour? A day?

At least a day with no progress.  As soon as I close Lightroom and open it again, sync will resume.  Another 100 or so photos will sync, and then it will hang again.  I'll have to do multiple restarts of Lightroom for sync to fully complete.

Ok. Thanks for that as it rules out a couple of things. 

Anti-virus software?  Have you attempted to disable while running?

I don't see where you've mentioned if this is a Laptop or Desktop. Do you have an alternate internet provider you can try temporarily when it hangs up? 

Is the sync inconsistent both ways? Lightroom Desktop to Lightroom mobile? Lightroom mobile - back to Lightroom desktop?

The problem first occurred on a desktop PC running Windows 7, connected to internet via ethernet cable.  I have 100mbps up/down, never any problems with my connection otherwise. 

I tested out syncing via my laptop, running Windows 10.  The problem still occurs. 

On both machines, I tried disabling everything from startup, all non-Microsoft services, so there was nothing like an antivirus or any other non-essential system service running.  The problem still occurs.

Once the files are in the cloud, everything syncs to my iPad running LR mobile with no problem.  However, any edits I do on my iPad do not always fully sync back to my desktop.  For example, if I set a picked flag on 100 images via my iPad and then open Lightroom on my desktop, it will only show 70 photos with a picked flag.  I will need to close/reopen lightroom a few times to get it to show all 100. 

I don't have another internet connection to test, but I've never had any other problems with uploads hanging.

Do the edits from your iPad (100 pick flags) sync back to the Lightroom for web at http://lightroom.adobe.com ? Or do they get stuck before making it to the web (cloud)?

I have this same problem. Lightroom will sync about 20-30 photos, give or take. Then it seems to stop syncing. If I restart lightroom, syncs about 20-30 more photos, then hangs again. Basically I have to restart lightroom over and over again for them to all sync. Very annoying. It didn't always use to do this. It seems like an update that came out, then this problem started.

Good question Rikk.  It appears that they do make it to the cloud but get stuck when trying to get back to my PC.  Right now, I have a collection with 129 pick flags made via LR mobile on my iPad.  lightroom.adobe.com also shows 129 pick flags.  My desktop LR shows 123 pick flags.  I just closed and reopened LR on my desktop and it still shows 123 pick flags.  This time it seems I'll have to delete the cache and start again. 

Just as Bruce said above, this all seems to be a fairly recent phenomenon.  I used to be able to sync 5,000 photos overnight with no issues.  Now I have to restart over and over as Bruce described.

That is good intel, Johnny. 

iPad to and from Lightroom for web (cloud) is solid but Lightroom for web to Lightroom for desktop is hanging partially both directions.  Do I have that summed up correctly?

That seems to be my experience.  All of the issues I've observed are with sync going to and from my desktop.  It's a relatively new problem; I've previously synced thousands of photos from my desktop at a time with no issues.  It's only been the last month or so that I've had the intermittent hanging that requires a restart of Lightroom on my desktop, deleting the sync cache, etc. 

Thanks for your help, hopefully there's something on the adobe server side that can be fixed, as I don't think the issue is with my desktop or laptop.

no @Rikk Flohr, I too have been having this issue. I try to sync over 3 apparatus; MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad. iPad has least amount of images but MacBook and iPhone are not synced either...it's a 3-way mess! Please help!

Anyone find a solution for this I had on hanging for the last week. Did not think it was that big of an issue until I tried to upload a wedding last night. Now I have 514 that did not sync. any help would be appreciated.
