Lightroom Classic 7.3: Doesn't update external media when importing

Issue doesn't happen with prior versions.

  1. Take pictures
  2. Insert CF card into USB reader (Transcend TS-RDF8K)
  3. Launch Lightroom 7.3
  4. Import (ctrl+shift+i)
  5. CF card contents are not updated --no new files found, even when there are hundreds ready to import.

If I browse to another device/directory, and then back to the CFD reader, and 30% of the time the card contents will be available to import. If not, exit and restart Lightroom.  Sometimes twice.

Maybe 5% of the time the contents are populated as expected :/

Jeff, Yesterday I had a similar situation where LightRoom did not seem to be reading a CF card. I tried several times to import and it did not seem to succeed. Then I noticed a tiny progress bar in the upper left of the Window. It was showing that the import was progressing but so slowly. I waited for it to show 100% without leaving the Import page and magically all the new photos appeared.

I can't say this is what you are experiencing. But maybe my experience will give you a clue.

Hi,

I don't see that--I just see greyed-out photos of older images, with no new additions on the card.

If i format the card  I just see "Please select source"

Jeff,
What happens if you select the card from the Files section instead of the Device section?
Does the images appear correctly?

Thanks,
Sunil

I will have to do a few tests to verify, but on my first attempt here was no change.  Once I exited the import screen and re-initiated the  import, only then was the new file visible.

I just did some tinkering, and noticed more unusualness:

  1. I insert CF drive, and wait for it to be recognized.
  2. It finally is shown in the device section, and the new file is not recognized (bad)
  3. I exit the importer, and relaunch
  4. New file recognized (good)
  5. I eject the drive and take another click with the camera
  6. I insert the drive, and after a moment it is recognized
  7. The new image is not recognized
  8. I nav to the File  browser view of the CF drive
  9. The files are there
I eject the drive to try again, and the File Browser will not update, and always shows the drive as present, even when it is not.
