I do not know how to change the permissions and I did change the preferences . I need help please . I have my first photoshoots coming up and really need this to be working. Thank you ahead of time for your time and help.

Are you running the latest Lightroom 6.5.1/Lightroom CC 2015.5.1? Lightroom Help>System Info... will show you the info. You can get the latest from https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html.

What is exactly the error message that it cannot read files? What it is the permissions issue that you are reporting?

I am running Lightroom 6.5.1. The error message says " Import results- some import operations were not performed - the following files were not imported because the could not be read."
The permissions that I was talking about was something that I read in this forum from other people having the same problems. It said to go to change to READ and WRITE . But I have no idea how to do that.  Thank you

Although it says that only some can not be imported it will not import any pictures from any SD card . Ive even tried going straight from the camera .

That error message can sometimes indicate that the destination to which you are importing these images is not writeable due to a permissions problem. You will need to go to the destination drive/folder and verify that your User ID has read/write permissions for the location.

If you're on mac, see https://support.apple.com/kb/PH21997?locale=en_US on how to change your destination folder's permisions.
