Lightroom 6 - unable to prepare the selected file at [Ramdrive] for editing.

I have 32GB of RAM in my machine and it's about 10x faster than my SSD so I figured I'd put temporary copies of my working files on a Ramdrive to speed things up a bit more...

All goes well - I copy the files to a new folder on the Ramdrive, rename the old folder and locate the new folder in the Library module. LR can create previews, export files etc. but as soon as I try to open a file in Photoshop I get the error "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at [ramdrive] for editing. It will not be opened."

I can open any PSD files directly from Photoshop but not from Lightroom. A google search implies this might be for the same reason that LR won't let you store the Catalog on a Ramdrive, but that doesn't make much sense. I'm aware that putting files on a Ramdrive renders them at risk of loss - that's why I have a UPS! And of course, being the geek I am I've got a scheduled task that copies any modified files from the Ramdrive to the SSD every 15 minutes, so I would only lose at most 15 minutes worth of changes (although LR changes are stored in the Catalog anyway, so not much of an issue there).

Could somebody from Adobe please explain why LR won't let me use my Ramdrive in the way I see fit?
