Lightroom 6 for Mac and compressing 4GB or larger catalog backups

As I understand it Lightroom 6 for Mac won't compress a catalog over 4GB. This is quite frustrating. I understand that the native Mac compressor can't un-compress these larger files, but many programs can. It would be much appreciate if while backing up a catalog Adobe made compression for catalogs 4GB or more an option on the Mac. I have the software to de-compress these large zip files, but it is a pain to do a manual zip every backup. Since I have a large catalog it seems I would benefit even more from this automatic compression. Perhaps a toggle box (default turned off) could be added to catalog settings with a disclaimer stating "third party software will be required to unzip large files". Please, please, please consider this. Thanks!

Hello Adobe,
Is there any way of knowing if someone has read my suggestion and if they will reply? I assume my post will be taken seriously and at least replies to, but it has been almost 10 days and I haven't heard anything.
Thanks,
Orin

You may or may not know whether Adobe is considering this idea, although, supposedly someone from Adobe at least reads all the initial posts, here, on the feedback forum.

It is possible for someone to set the Topic status to Not Planned, Planned, Under Construction or Implemented, but many times you won't know until something changes in a future version.

The initial version of LR 6/2015 always compressed catalogs, while a subsequent version didn't compress them if they were larger than 4GB on a Mac, but this was all internal logic.

It is possible that someone will decide to add a setting to select whether you want compression or not of larger catalogs, but this requires a UI change and more layers of bureaucracy and the situation it addresses is not a serious as always compressing catalogs and requiring a third-party tool to restore them as happened initially, so the priority of the idea or request may be less.

Steve,
Thank you very much for your quick reply! I appreciate you taking the time to do so. Seems like it would be easy to implement since it was already there before the incremental update, but I also understand the situation.
Best,
Orin

You're asking for a setting to be added to preferences to control whether catalogs > 4GB are compressed or not.

That didn't exist before the incremental, so it is an enhancement request.
