Lightroom 6 configuration error on launch

After a year of the Photoshop/Lightroom CC subscription I wasn't using PS so decided to buy the standalone version of Lightroom 6.

I have had nothing but trouble with the install. After 3 uninstall and re-installs I always get the same crash and an error code: 16, telling to uninstall and re-install. Obviously I'm stuck in a loop here, has anyone any suggestions that I could try please?

You don't say whether you are Mac or PC? If Mac: Reboot into Safe Mode. If that doesn't help, run Onyx, Disk Warrior. Nothing? Reinstall the Combo 10.11.4 updater (not the delta one). As a last resort, uninstall Lightroom (/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/Uninstall Adobe Lightroom), then reinstall.

Hi Carlos, I tried Onyx and the combo installer, and re-installation, no luck at all I'm afraid. See my comment below to Chris and Victoria.

Ian, did you have Lightroom CC installed? There was no need to uninstall CC to convert the license to perpetual 6: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/serialize-lightroom-cc-trial-to-activate-as-lightroom-6.html

Did you use the Creative Cloud app to uninstall Lightroom? Or did you use Onyx to uninstall?

If you did not use the CC app to uninstall, that's probably the root of your problem.

Hi Jeffrey, thanks for the reply, I've been away so this is my first chance to reply.

I did not use CC to uninstall LR, I used another 3rd party app (I know better now). I recall that I did get it all working at first and then I think I uninstalled via the 3rd party app. That's when it all went pear shaped!

I have spent the morning reinstalling CC desktop and uninstalling LR CC. I then reinstalled LR CC as a trial but all to no avail, I still get the same error dialogue and error code 6.

Don't know what to try next, any suggestions please?

Seeing the long, detailed crash report would also help.

I'm sorry I don't know how to generate such a report. I should also say that LR doesn't even launch, as soon as I click on the icon a box pops up telling me there's a configuration error and I should uninstall and reinstall the software, it also quotes error code: 16. As I said in my original post CC worked fine for a year before this change to LR standalone. I am thinking of using time machine to roll back to before I installed the first time. Although even if I get to that point I have no idea how to stop this all from happening again.

If the application crashes, then MacOS shows you a dialog with a very long, detailed crash report.

It sounds like you aren't crashing at all, but just have an installer problem.

Hi Chris and Victoria, thank you for your replies.

In fact it does create a crash report about one minute after LR installer displays the error message. However I am getting exactly the error message that Victoria has linked to.

Although when I followed Adobe's instructions on resetting folder permissions, I found they were already as per Adobe's specification. I duly reinstalled for the 4 or 5th time and got exactly the same error message. The error message says to contact Adobe tech support, but I am finding it impossible to find out how to do that!

I have owned Adobe products for many years (Acrobat Pro, CC etc) and had no problems whatsoever, this is now taking so much of my time it is impacting on my productivity.
