Lightroom 6 / CC2015: is consistently going into a "not responding" state when working in the People View to add edit names to faces.

Once you Click the checkmark next to a 'tag guess' to confirm it in the People View, or a number of "detected faces" are selected and the backspace key is hit to remove the "detected face" the system will go into a "not responding" state.

Do you have "All Photographs" selected as the source when you do face tagging? The performance would scale better if you focus on a smaller set of folders to work on one at a time. Also try to optimize your catalog once in a while.

Optimize catalog before every shut down.
For the source "All photographs" or just a folder (by month or year) with a few hundred or a few thousand images doesn't seem to effect performance with this issue (current catalog ~60,000 images).

Notes about the catalog:
mix of video, Jpeg, Tiff, PSD, and DNG images in the catalog
most DNG images are 6048 x 4032 px (about 25MB)
metadata panel set at either 'default' or 'EXIF and IPTC'

Notes on memory usage while running LRCC15 after it has hit a few "not responding" states:
Built-in memory: 32717.7 MB
Real memory available to Lightroom: 32717.7 MB
Real memory used by Lightroom: 3131.9 MB (9.5%)
Virtual memory used by Lightroom: 3194.5 MB
Memory cache size: 6338.6 MB

Hi Walt, I notice you've mentioned problems with your AMD driver for FirePro card. If you disable Use Graphics Processor, does this issue with faces also go away?

I've got the Beta driver for the FirePro card. No change in the lag in the people view with the GPU.

I did a quick test of how long LR stops responding after adding a tag, confirming a tag guess, or deleting a suggested face: ~24 seconds of lag from action to program responding.

I repeated the test with the GPU on and with 'automatic XMP writing' turned off,
still about 24 seconds of lag

I am not sure how the image size factor into this "Not Responding" issue during tagging.

There will be some fairly significant performance improvement in this front in the next scheduled dot release (i.e. Lr 6.2), especially for large catalogs.

Simon, I hope the performance improvements in the next scheduled dot release (i.e. Lr 6.2) resolve this issue. I look forward to seeing the next dot release soon (sooner if it's on labs).

Hey, Simon,

Just did a quick test of LR 2015.2, I'm not seeing any performance changes in the people view or with the lag and not/responding states I'm experiencing.

I will take notice that, hopefully Camera RAW in LR should be better
2015.1 Maximum thread count used by Camera Raw: 4
2015.2 Maximum thread count used by Camera Raw: 8

Adding more threads was long over due, Glad to see that finally happened.

I was having same problem. I upgraded to LR CC 2015.5 this week and the issue continues. Mac OS X 10.11.3 on MacBook with SSD and 16Gig RAM. Occurs when doing editing in People mode, not when initially assigning names faces in an image. It stays in Not Responding mode for 3-4 minutes then comes out and completes the edit.
