I can start lightroom.
I see the splash and lightroom, my image, but the application hangs.

I have similar issue. Bought it this morning and it hangs on startup.

After few minutes of sitting there it lets me click on few things, but then hangs again.

Same here when there is no Internet connection.
I have a small LAN, the pc is connected to a switch which is connected to a router, I can reproduce the problem when I switch off the router, that means there is still a network connection and no Internet access. In this scenario LR6 takes much longer to start and hangs every few seconds, unusable.
When I unplug the network cable or disable the LAN via control panel, so I have no network connection at all, then LR6 works just fine.

Mine is an upgrade from LR5, perpetual license, if that matters.

For now I've worked around this issue by creating new Win7 user and running LR6 from there.

It appears to me that LR5 that was installed (and removed) from main account still leaves something on that account that interferes with LR6s proper operation.

after being installed for about a week, my Lr 6 (non CC) started hanging up. the problem begins with a warning dialog about the server being busy and recommending that i change to "the other" program. after that Lr no longer runs and must be re-installed. i start Lr and the splash screen never goes away. Core i7 with 16g RAM, Win 8.1.

this is really getting tedious! Lr 5 did NOT have this issue! i've had to reinstall Lr 6 a dozen times now. please fix this issue!

Same issue(s) as bushman. Uninstalled, reinstalled, new catalog, cannot use the program at all and no clear issue identified with windows. Tried C: drive and also dedicated SSD for catalog. I bought LR1 when it came out, and versions through 4 and never had this issue before, please tell me there is an update. Running Standalone LR 6 on Win7 Ult 64bit with Xeon X5670 and 24gb RAM on clean install. Plugins are OnOne 8.5 and CS5.5 already installed and fully functional. I am sad about this. The data from error is:

hi Simon. do you get that "server busy" dialog, and if so, does pressing "retry" allow Lr to continue loading? thanks.

Yes, "server busy" the same. Retry only brought forward main program window, but splash-screen hung in background, so I did not get any further. Uninstalled first time, deleted folders, reinstalled, same issue. I did not have to use adobe I.D. with earlier versions so I wonder if that is where server issue is? Went back to "Bridge" and it is frustrating compared to lightroom for managing files, especially since it is running on 6.0 for RAW and DNG is required for new camera images. Sad is shifting to GRRR!

Simon, once i installed the update, clicking "Retry" allowed Lr to finish loading properly. something still isn't quite right but at least i'm able to use it. my version is 6.0.1. did you install the update?

MJ,
I re-re-installed Lightroom 6 after a third clean download and used default everything for lightroom including catalog (not a fan of the catalog being on RAID 0 C: drive). Same issues as before, but yes, at least I can click on "Retry" (twice it popped up) and it seems LR 6 is running [for now], but likely I will not have the "retry" option on my next start-up. It did exactly the same on original install, then the same on second install, now the same on third install... and I have only installed the newest version of LR 6 directly from Adobe. Might be that CS5 is running at startup in the CS% Service Manager? Anyways, this is the first time an Adobe product has seriously disappointed me from the start.

hi Simon. ok, i would assume that since you're doing a clean download (a good practice, btw) it would include the new patch.

i found that if i booted my machine and did nothing else but start Lr, it runs. but if i've been using Chrome or my email client, i get the busy dialog. i mean to say that if Chrome is still running i get the dialog. i agree with your sentiments completely. Adobe apps are normally as close to perfect as you can get.

I just started getting this error about an hour ago - running Lightroom 6 standalone. Even after restarting and not opening anything BUT Lr it's not responding - I can't even get in to view my catalog. Does anyone have any ideas, because I really need to get back to work.

On the bright side, mine is working now. No hyperbole, but open LR6 first on its own like MJ has said, then hit "RETRY" as many times as required (first time it was twice, last time it was SIX [6] times) but it has been working fine since that with no conflicts - BUT - I am using my C: drive for catalog which angers me, but at least LR6 is actually working now. Best of luck, reinstalling does not help, at least not three time I tried it.

Simon, i have the executable on the SSD, and my catalog on my data drive, and it works for me. since you now have it working, you might as well try to move the catalog where you want it and see what happens.

Bumbing this thread since start up freeze has now happend two times and now recently after a clean reinstall just a few days ago. I've been running LR5 and 6 for 4 years and never experienced any problems until now and now it is totally unreliable.

I work profecionally as a news photographer in the field and these things just cannot happen!

Any other suggestions to this problem than to reinstall? it can't be a sollution to reinstall a program everytime in the field working!
