LIGHTROOM 6.3 - freezing my system when launched on MacOS 10.11

Almost every time I've opened LR since updating to 6.2 (and now 6.3), the computer freezes. It's not just LR that freezes, but the entire computer. I cannot do anything except wait, and I know exactly how long I've been waiting because the clock freezes. Ten minutes of that godda*n spinning wheel while trying to show my wife a single photo. I thought the point of moving to a subscription model was to have software updates released when they're ready, not to an artificial schedule?

Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Lightroom CC: Crashing constantly (Mac OS).

If the entire system is freezing, then you have a system level problem (OS bug, driver bug, hardware defect, bad network, etc.). Applications cannot cause the entire system to hang/freeze, shutdown, or restart on modern OSes.

Do you have any external drives or network volumes mounted that could be timing out?
Do you have a hard disk acting slow?
Have you updated your OS and drivers?

I would have thought the same, but there you go. It's happening and it's only occurred since installing LR 6.2. I can access and work on all the same files (they're on a mix of internal and external drives) using Bridge and PS without a hassle. But as soon as I dare open Lightroom, everything goes to crud. HDDs are acting fine and everything is up to date (OS X 10.11).

Try disable the GPU acceleration to see if it helps https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/....

Which version of PS/ACR that you are using? Are you also running ACR 9.3 alongside Lr 6.3?

Hi Simon,

I'm running ACR 9.3 with LR 6.3.

Are there issues with GPU (again) since the release of OS X 10.11? I've never known a "feature" be of such detriment to the end user.

Yes, MacOS 10.11 has several GPU related bugs that are not yet fixed.

That seems to have done the trick for now. Still, it's pretty poor that:

a) you have to shut off a "feature" on the latest version of software on an up-to-date machine, and
b) there has been no mention of this on any official Adobe channel. The GPU help page (https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/...) makes no mention of problems with OS X 10.11.

Since I started using LR (version 3), the software has become slower and more bloated, even though my processing power has increased substantially. I'd really love LR to be the quick, responsive and intuitive processing software it used to be.

a) you're shutting it off to avoid a bug in your OS that Apple hasn't yet fixed.
b) since more people aren't seeing this problem, the driver bug is most likely specific to your model machine or GPU. What model Macintosh and GPU do you have?

Yes, we notify Apple of these OS issues when we find them. But we do not set Apple's schedule for fixing the OS bugs.

I appreciate Adobe is having issues with Apple's OS changes. It can't be easy trying to deal with one of the world's most intransigent corporations, but all the end-user is after is a working product. We don't really care who's to blame, we just want a working product. A better flow of information (to which this forum is a welcome addition) would make it easier for users to make an informed decision.

I am using an iMac13,2 (27" late-2012) with an nvidia 680MX.
