Lightroom 6.2.1: Totally screwed up

Upgraded Lightroom from 6.0 to 6.2, then to 6.2.1. Product is unusable.

e.g. I imported both JPEG and raw files from an SD card. Lightroom created thumbnails for them, but when I click on them both thumbnails link to the JPEG: there's no way to get access to the raw versions.

e.g. When I click on thumbails, either in the main pane or in the filmstrip at the bottom, the metadata in the right-hand column does not change.

e.g. when I look at images imported before the upgrades the same thing happens: I get thumbnails for both the JPEG and raw versions of each image, but when I click on either thumbnail of a pair the readout of the filename does not change, and the metadata in the right-hand column does not change.

e.g. when I select an image and click "Develop", the right-hand column fills with the develop-mode controls, but the "Library" mode selector in the top-right column remains highlighted.

And there are long delays for almost everything I click.

This release is totally screwed up -- to the extent that it is unusable.
