Lightroom 6.12 desktop upgrade is not an upgrade

I noticed an update to my desktop version of Lightroom 6.12 and foolishly (as it turns out) I clicked on it. This downloaded an update which got to 99% complete before reporting an error and terminating. I then found that it had corrupted my installation of Lightroom. I therefore logged onto the Adobe site and requested what I thought was a fresh download of Lightroom. What I actually got was the new program also called Lightroom but quite evidently this has nothing in common with the Lightroom program I have been using for several years, This new program appears to have been aimed at 2 year olds and as such is completely useless to me. I hope it gets deleted and consigned to the great software dustbin before too many serious photographers lose any time bothering with it.

Sounds like you installed the new Lightroom CC.

You want to grab the standalone installer of Lightroom 6 from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html

In case you need help serializing Lightroom: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/serialize-lightroom-cc-trial-to-activate-as-lightroom-6.html

Would it hurt to empathise with the people whose time you've wasted?

Thanks, I had figured that out but it was not at all obvious from your web site. I clicked on my account, then download desktop products and Lightroom was the first product. Why you have renamed the Lightroom product to Lightroom Classic is bewildering and quite why you have replaced it with a product with the same name that has no useful functionality is a complete mystery.
From the Creative Cloud installer app I also found Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom Classic. Lightroom Classic CC installed OK and would be acceptable to use although I think I may need to purchase a license but Lightroom Classic also failed to update. I'll try the link above but I expect that will have similar results.
I am at this moment an extremely annoyed and disappointed customer.
