Hello Florian,

Samsung cameras record lens correction data into the raw images that Lightroom (LR) and the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin can interpret and apply automatically. As a result, an external profile is not necessary. ACR displays an information badge on the Profile tab of the Lens Corrections panel that notifies users of the presence of a built-in lens profile. Lightroom 5.x does not.

Regards,

- Chris

Choosing Auto, LR claims it cant find one. If I choose samsung, it says it's using the built in one, but defaults to the lensbaby one instead. How do I choose to just use the built in one?

"Enable Lens Profile" refers to external lens profiles which mirrorless cameras DO NOT HAVE.

So for mirrorless cameras Enable Lens Profile should be UNCHECKED.

There are some exceptions to this rule. As you point out, most mirrorless cameras (e.g. Fujifilm, Samsung, Micro Four Thirds cameras) have built-in lens corrections via opcodes written into the raw images they produce. Others (e.g. Sony A7 series) do use external lens profiles generated here at Adobe. We usually indicate whether a lens is automatically corrected by showing a clickable info icon on the Lens Corrections> Profile tab.

So you're saying that for my nx500 with this lens I should completely uncheck the use profile correction? If I leave it checked and set to auto, this is what I'm shown:

Depending on the version of Lightroom, there should be an info icon where it currently shows "Unable to locate a matching profile automatically." in the screen shot above.

If that is not present you may need to update your version of Lightroom to see it. Either way it the built-in profile is still applied.

IIRC, this was added to Lightroom 6 or 6.1. The Camera Raw plugin has had the "built-in profile" info icon for a few releases.

Ah, I get it now. In this screen, I had been under the assumption I needed to enable profile corrections to use the options below it. Clearing the check mark showed that it was using the built in profile in the info bar as you stated.

Yes. It isn't super clear that "Enable Profile Corrections" is for external lens profiles.
