Lightroom 5 Freezing My PC

I am new to Adobe Lightroom. Just installed version 5, and updated the program to v 5.7(?). Whenever the program is running, my Window 7 Ultimate 64-bit PC will freeze up solid, and nothing short of a hard re-boot will help. I have read the forums and supposedly a patch (v 5.3?) was supposed to have fixed this problem? Why, then, is it occurring for me and how do I fix it?

Thanks for all replies.

If the entire system hangs, reboots, blue screens, or shuts down - then you are looking at a system level problem: a bug in the OS, a bug in a low level driver, or defective hardware.

No Lightroom fix could be issued for such a system bug.

The most common causes we have seen are defective RAM, defective power supplies, and recently a bad Nvidia driver update. (but over time we've seen just about every it of hardware in the system fail and cause system shutdowns/hangs, etc.)

How could it be a system problem if the problem did not exist before I installed Lightroom???

Because the problem DID exist before you installed Lightroom. Lightroom is just using the part of your system that contains the defect. Kind of like you don't know that a road has potholes until you actually drive down that road. Lightroom is just exposing a problem that already exists in your system, and you need to fix the system to fix the problem.
