Lightroom 5.3: On Windows 10 severe lags and "Not Responding" during development

I am running into remarkably debilitating lags while working on photos in Lightroom 5.3. I am also running Windows 10 on a Lenovo featuring an Intel Core i3. I've read through the other forums, and haven't yet seen my exact issue. Many people describe full crashes and entirely non-responsive performance for eternities. My problem, however, is simply (yet excruciatingly) lag. When I move a slider or select a tool. Lightroom won't respond for anywhere from 20-50 seconds, neither in previews or otherwise. Often, I cannot click anything else until that rendering completes. Rarely, the program lists itself as "Not Responding" until it fixes itself a minute later, when I will click again, and wait for another minute. It is literally taking almost 30 times as long to process one photo (where a five minute fixer becomes a two hour ordeal).

I love Lightroom, and I enjoy my work there, but this is making it hellish. I have increased the RAW cache, have plenty of memory and RAM, removed unneeded back-up's, and have no issues with any other programs on my computer. I also attempted to deactivate the GPU accelerator, but cannot find the option in Lightroom 5.3, and when I attempt to manually disable it, I cannot seem to navigate Windows 10 successfully.

Please, please let me know what I can do to rectify this hang-up. I'd really love to return to work.

Thank you so much!

Can you post your system info here from Lightroom's System Info dialog Help>System Info...?

You should try to update to the more recent Lightroom 5.7, see https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html.

Then try to reset Lightroom's user prefs. See http://www.lightroomforums.net/threads/resetting-or-trashing-the-lightroom-preferences-file.14226/ on how to do that on Windows.

If this is a recent issue I would try to do a system restore back to the configuration prior to having the issue.
