A handful of users in the Lightroom user to user forum are insisting that, when importing raw images to Lightroom 3.3, the program is automatically converting them to JPEG. I have ruffled their feathers by alternatively insisting that that simply isn't possible. So I'm asking here what phenomenon can possibly be happening that would give these users the impression that such a thing is happening?
I answer questions regularly on the Adobe forums. But I have been asked by one of the participants in that particular discussion to please not participate if I won't provide the real answer because I'm just being abusive by insisting that what they are describing cannot happen. I have suggested that they post their question on this forum, but they don't seem to be interested. That is why I thought I would do so to get an opinion from some of the experts because I certainly am no one.
Okay, but it has gotten to be a rather lengthy post. I just checked it and Jim Wilde has interjected. He is someone who seems to have some real expertise, and has asked some pointed questions that I haven't thought about asking. But some insight from you would be interesting to see what reaction comes from this bunch. Always good to hear from you, Victoria.
Eugh, don't you love it when multiple people with completely different problems all pile onto an old thread?!
- Thought was shot in raw, but might have been the camera (some cameras do things like HDR as JPEG regardless of file format chosen
- Importing from the computer's photo app instead of from the camera
- Importing through a third party camera app
- Importing through Photos app on macOS
- Multiple different Lightroom versions
