Lightroom 2015.7: Import function references devices that should not be visible

This only started occurring with Lightroom 2015.7 on macOS 10.12, updated in the Adobe recommended sequence

I charge my phone using a USB port on the Mac, I also run Virtual Machines on the Mac using Parallels.

The Phone is assigned to one of the Virtual Machines so should be invisible to all Mac apps.

The phone was not visible to LR in LR2015.6 and earlier on OSX 10.11 and earlier.

Withe the combination of updating LR and moving to macOS, the phone now appears as a device in the Sources for LR import.

This means that the 'true' sources from which I import, which are folders on the Mac are no longer expanded.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for reporting.
Could you please check if your phone is visible to other Mac apps too?

The behaviour I see in 2015.7 is exactly the same whether the virtual machine is running or not.

In 2015.6 and earlier
  • VM not running then device (Windows 10 phone) is shown at top of import list as its attached to the Mac
  • VM running - device not shown as its attached to the VM and not the Mac
in 2015.7
  • VM not running then device is shown at top of import list
  • VM running then device is shown at top of import list - its this that has changed

Stephen,
I was investigating it further in Sierra with a VM running on it.
Other apps, like Photos and Image Capture, are behaving in the similar way.
When the device is connected to VM, they display the device, but images are not shown. Let us know if you see a different behavior.

Thanks,
Sunil

I don't use either of these applications so, to be honest, I don't care what they do.

I do use LR and this is the third time this year the import function has got worse.

I have an alternative suggestion, you run LR 2015.6 on 10.11 and you should see the difference.
