Lightroom 2015.6 Extremely Slow

I am not sure if this is the best place to post this but I am extremely frustrated! This version is extremely slower than the previous version, which in turn was slower than the one before it. Moving from one image to the next, takes at least 5seconds and adjusting any slider causes Lightroom to freeze, with the lovely "circle of death" reminding me that it's thinking and I should not perform any actions, for 2 seconds or so. I am a very tolerant person but feel like I've had it now! It feels like I am falling out of love with a craft that I once was excited about because editing, which is a very important part of the process, doesn't work. And instead of improving, Lightroom has quickly gotten worse over time! It has taken me 2 and a half days to edit 450 photos, and there's a few more to do but Lightroom has now CRASHED hence my angst here! I have a couple jobs more to edit and I am in a position where I am not seeking after more work because of a backlog of jobs to edit. This is really costing me and I am very angry because I just want to get on with my work. Yes I have a decent system, yes I have plenty of RAM, yes I have a SSD installed. ADOBE, please please please, I just want to edit and enjoy it.

I can agree with "LR is extremely extremly slow". I tested with different PC hardware and with different LR versions. I can say:
  1. LR/Camera Raw has definitive a performance problem with some - especially my high-quality – PCs!
  2. I can reproduce the problem and I can demonstrate that the problem on other - especially my weak – PCs not persist or is not so strongly.
  3. With GPU on the problem increase drastically!
  4. Camera RAW from Bridge and Photoshop have the same problem.
  5. With higher lightroom version the problem increase! Also with the newest 2015.6.1!
  6. Camera Raw Cache amll/big. No difference.
  7. Minimize LR, not helps or helps only minimal.
  8. Downgrade helps a little, but not eliminate the problem in general.
  9. Restart LR, helps but restart LR every X images are not a good workaround!
  10. It is very frustrating that with LR my weakness machine is better than my best PC!

Please see this: https://forums.adobe.com/message/9011357#9011357 and let me know if you agree or not and if you have similar experience.

I have exactly the same issues on i7 5960X 8 Core with GTX 980Ti, 64GB Ram and M.2 PCI Express SSDs, 4K Display

I restart lightroom every few images when I want it to ran fast, otherwise I just suffers the performance decrease.

In these thread trshaner say:
We've see reports of this for both Intel i7 and Xeon processors as well as AMD processors with 6 or more cores. Adding this as a Problem report at the Photoshop Family site is the best way to get Adobe's attention.
I have now opened this thread: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom-clone-and-brush-tool-can-not-stress-the-cpu-is-slow-only-on-cpu-with-xeon-architectures-can-confirm

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom CC 2015.07 speed issue.

I've got LR CC on two compters both are very strong spec. On both previous version work much faster. 2015.07 is a DISASTER!!!!
Every thing is unbelievable slow. I want to get my money back for this month!! And as long as this issue will not be fixed!

If you need to get work done in the meantime, you might consider rolling back to 2015.6: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/roll-back-to-prior-update.html

It is not proper. I pay every month. As we agreed. What will happen if I not pay the bill? i will say that this month transfer have been upgraded and is not containing any money. Exactly as you ADOBE is making software.

So I demand: give me my money back. For time when update 2015.7 have been relased till next proper fix.

If 2015.6 work better than new version then what the fu*** happend that someone decided to let the 2015.7 sh**** out.
I'm not taking about glitches  slowness. I'm talking about blacksceen every time when I do something in LR. Doesn't matter if GPU is used or not.

So Adobe do something proper and make patch. And Give me my money. But mostly focus @ proper patch. Right after money transfer.

Sorry for bad english. And greeting from Poland :)

I hate having to continue to rollback to 2015.5 because Adobe cannot get their crap together, this is ridiculous.   Why should I have to continue to pay for something that is costing me money in excess time.

I've been seeing a lot of ads on Capture 1 of late.  It may not be LR but it appears to work.  Anyone else trying it?

Adding my vote.  Updated to 2015.7 today and fell into this mess.  I've taken all day so far to edit one simple shoot - I'm losing time and money on this assignment and I'm not happy.  Disabling teh GPU and switching to smart previews has sped some things up, but a simple JPG export is taking 10 seconds .. yeuch.

Thanks John !  Got to soldier on with 2015.7 to get this shoot to the client (already late) and then I'll take the time to down-date (is that the opposite of update?)... what's a good number to roll back to?  My cc cloud auto update stopped working when I swiched to Win 10 in July, and I only noticed this morning, got that issue fixed and got dumped into the 2015.7 mess. I can't remember what version I was on before.

I don't have a specific recommendation -- this thread was initially about 2015.6 being extremely slow, so perhaps you should try an earlier version.    There are always some complaints about unreasonable slowth for each version, but it does seem that 2015.7 and perhaps 2015.6 have had an unusually high number.

This is insane:
We pay great sum of money per year for (complete) Adobe CC, yet we need to have up to three version of each of program installed to get work done, fiddling with every dot update, rolling back, finding solutions for unsolvable problems (like ongoing Adobe's performance issues), dealing with bugs, hanging here on forum for days and wasting our creative time... this is nuts. We pay for solutions not problems resolving opportunity; we pay for someone ELSE would do all the testing and taking care of ironing out problems instead of us. I'm sick of it. No matter how fast the PC u upgrade, same performance. And new and new problems. We just need reliable tools, not new features every fortnight that we do not use anyway (HDR, panorama, dehaze)... since they are so fundamental that rarely give any usable result.

So for any serious work we need external solution enyway that we pay separately. Instead of adding thoose "consumer" features, they should fix Lr to reflect edited TIFF without restarting Lr and / or non-stop syncing folders. Or to fix shifted colors on Lr mobile here and there every 10th or so image uploaded. Or solve problem with cache where 99GB of cache on SSD did not solve problem of lag "building up" after a while and frequent restart needed. That the catalogue backup that fails for unknown reason every other ween and refuse to bkcup for few days than it'sd ok again without any user intervention. Than ultra laggy and fundamental spot remuver, which is just that - a (1) spot remover. And image quality process was not improved over 4 years now and most top solutions are ahead already... fix that instead of giving new import dialogs and features that we do not use (stock photo upload...?).

It seems Lr lean toward consumers... we need to look elsewhere. But where... :(

I've started to try other RAW processors. Find Capture One much faster and get much better color. LED light lightoff less blownout. So testng in progress. Also next month ON1 will come out so I will try it also. What hold me in Adobe? you will be surprised.  Plugins. very cheap morgify and Aslo HDR and Panoramas modes. Please Adobe Make some big progress as lot of other companies left you behind in main part.

I agree on all benefits you mention regarding C1. While Adobe is headed toward masses and deal with professionals with left hand only. New features are very basic at best (HDR is joke), to atract consumer users, to subscribe. They know old users are too used to ecosystem and that we have 100-of-1000 of images in catologue, had bought 100's of plugins, presets, spent months and years to learn and master it... de we reaaly have time and money and energy to change?? Who cares if we are not satisfied, while they gain masses of new subscribers.

I curse Premiere, Audition, Dreamweawer, Lightroom, Speedgrade... and I'm ok with After Effects and Photoshop, and here and there using Acrobat.I already have CorelDRAW separate, I never use Ilustrator. I rave in ager trying to escape for a while now. But changing Lr to C1 just add me new monthly due; I save nothing  until I find alternative to all  software I use. Adobe can count on me for a while - so...

I totally agree with you Mihael and I have exactly the same issues with moving to C1 I would love to because of thier raw processing but I have 150K images on my catalog with plugins and published services and C1 is not there yet. by the way I have emailed them my issues (to C1/Phase one support) and they seems interested in making their catalogue functionality better, so I presume they care, lets see what progress they make. they brought out C1 V10 today. which even faster, genetaring 269 full size previews in less them 4 minutes, loading images is instant and my fines are 80MP. check it out https://www.phaseone.com/en/Download.aspx

I put hopes on new ON1 RAW... they promise unmatched performance and no new catalogue need. It seem they adressed our issue of havig images in Lr ecosystem. They can operate s Lightroom plugin or standalone. Yet they give us 5 machines licence for 120 (curently discounted to 100) and licence is not subscription based. You OWN IT!

To be honest I left my LR untouched since I install C1. Now C1 rev.10 come out and it is faster :) Stil there are some functions that only LR have but for now I will stay with C1 as it gvive me back fun with digital darkroom :). LR? I will cancel subscription soon. maybe in future I  will come back to LR...
