Lightroom 2015.2: Hangs on quit

Happens every time I try and quit. Worked fine prior to the 2015.2 update. It just freezes and requires I force quit. If I start a new empty catalog, it will quit fine. Tested integrity of original catalog and no issues. This is running on a 2014 iMac 5k with OS X El Capitan.

The Preferences made no difference to my installation. Exit is "unreliable" exits OK about 1 in 4 times. And I've noticed that some dialogues/sidebars give-up responding to the mouse (wheel and clicks) and when that happens, it will not exit. when they work it will exit.

For example, the left sidebar (Navigate, Folders, Collections) shows the different sections open/closed randomly on startup (completely random, never bothers with as per last time Lightroom was run). And click the triangle to expand/hide the section and if click is ignored then Lightroom will not exit, if it works then Lightroom will exit. Same with mouse wheel for scrolling - always works in the centre (image/tiles display) but in the left or right (or dialogues e.g. the export settings) if mouse wheel does not work, neither will the clicks and Lightroom will not exit.

Interestingly the trackpad scrolling always works but trackpad clicks behave same as mouse.

Nothing wrong with mouse as it always works fine in the centre window (image//tiles).

I've also seen the refusal to exit when Lightroom has no internet access !!

This is a real disaster (not just the exit but the mouse scrolling/click failures in some panes. I've tried the Preference changes (as described above) but no change - still fails a lot.

How can I get an earlier version of 6 that works (can go back to 5 now because of the amount of work in my v6 Library). I'd short of hoped Adobe would have been a bit more careful about these sorts of software disasters.

Many thanks. Difficult decision as a fix to such a serious issue can't be far away (Adobe must be pulling out everything)

Done the roll back and 6.1.1 does not suffer the same problem (also does not suffer many other problems 6.2+ seems to suffer from)

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom 6.2.1 hangs when closing application on MacOS 10.11.1.

Hi all, I have tomething like 45000 pictures on my Mac ! I'm dealing with a scaring issue, since the update to version 6.2.1 I'm no more able to close the app properly. Every time I'm getting a crash, screen frozen, need to kill the task. I have tried to reset Lightroom setting, Maj + Option, result is error 16. I'm using this wonderful app since many years without any issue. Any suggestion is more than welcome ! I have a complete memory dump record of the crash. Christian

I tried all the suggestions and they did not work for me. I ended-up going back to 6.1.1 whick seems to work fine (for me 6.2 introduced loads of bugs, not just the exit problem). Going back did not cause any library issues or anything. Just download time. (i.e. uninstall 6.2.x, install 6.0, upgrade to r.1, upgrade to 6.1.1) old version downloads

Finally I downgrade to 6.1.1, it's ok now, no issue with library, great. I just realize that my MBP graphic card is not compatible with 6.2.1 anyway. It looks that even if you disable graphic acceleration in LR, the incompatibility remain. Thanks for your response !

Hi Becky from Adobe, I certainly wish I could upgrade my CC: copy to 2.1, to "try" and rid my mac version from hanging on close, every, single, time and the simple check box fixes described in this thread are of no use. The bigger issue for me is losing the ability to sync folders..no, not import, sync. If I export under various conditions, but then want to bring those back into the library, a simple sync folder is all that's necessary..last time I checked, that functionality has been removed from 2.1. Correct?

Sync isn't working correctly in 6.2.1, but it hasn't been removed intentionally - it's just a bug that's related to the import issues.

And right now, your easiest fix is just to roll back http://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-...

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Lightroom HANGS on Quit..

New Lightroom CC crashes every time I quite the application. It hangs up and I have to force quit. This happens every single time without fail.

Imac 5K, El Capitan 10.11.1, Lightroom 2015 2.1 release. Seems to be related to LR mobile. always says syncing photos when I quit, even if there's nothing new to sync.

After weeks and months of Lr hanging on quit, I just found a solution posted by another user.

RESET your Preferences by holding the ALT (OPT) and SHIFT key when launching Lr.

IT WORKED!

I tried with changing the preferences and that works temporary.

Whenever the backup window popup comes for its periodic backup and I press ok to create the backup, lightroom will not close anymore. I am importing pictures remotely often with RDP and close the connection after import as the machine will sleep automatically . But with lightroom not closing, the PC will not go into sleep modus, so I have to kill the process to make sure the PC will move to sleep mode.....

Thinking of jumping back to 2015.1 as I am getting impatient by now...

So why with Photoshop, there are 2 versions, Pro (Photoshop), and consumer (Elements). And we don't see that with Lightroom? Pro level DAM functionality to compete effectively with Capture One and the like, and then, a consumer level with all the fun buttons and watered down functionality? The card eject thing is funny to me as both OSX and Windows require eject to remove safely. It's a simple check box that once checked, I don't have to worry about again. But now, I have to open finder, or go to the desktop, and "eject" the card outside of Lightroom. Bravo.

I have the same problem with Mac OS X 10.11.1 and Lightroom 6.2.1

When I uncheck “Show ‘Add Photos’ Screen” I can quit correctly. But if I try to import photos it crashes again when quitting. After opening LR again, I can quit correctly provided I don't try to import any picture.

If I check “Show ‘Add Photos’ Screen” again, LR keeps on hanging.

It is clear versions 6.2 and 6.2.1 are not stable at all!

Installed 2015.3 today and checked after creating the backup again, like earlier in this thread.

Problem solved, lightroom closes again normally after this upgrade...

Thanks Adobe for solving this annoyance!

This issue should be corrected by the Lightroom CC 2015.3/6.3 update.

I have the latest upgrades - and since upgrading the Mac to El Capitan the Lightroom APP hangs - consistently - on Quit when check catalog integrity is checked. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I have created a new catalog and imported the old catalog. Still hangs.

Joe,

Exit Lightroom
Hold down [Opt]+[Shift] and relaunch Lightroom.
Overwrite the preferences when prompted.

Does it still hang?

NO! Problem solved! Thanks so much. I was really becoming concerned for the "integrity" of my catalogs! Thanks.

Great. The Preference file can survive an uninstall/reinstall so it is an obvious culprit when something strange is happening.  I am glad you are working again.
