Lightoom Classic: 6.12 won't open replaced w/Lightroom CC

LR 6.13/Mac OS 10.12.6 wouldn't open, with a Mac OS error 'Lightroom.app can't be opened'. Tried replacing with version from a few days ago via Time Machine. This yielded a 'Configuration Error 1', telling me 'to uninstall/reinstall the product.' I downloaded from an Adobe link that I thought was LR Classic CC, but instead I've got LR CC, which I don't believe is what I want. I'd like my old LR back, & I need LR to function!
Frustrating..

First try completely uninstall LR 6.13, including removing the Adobe Lightroom application folder completely after the install (if one remains).

Then go to https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html to download the reinstall Lr CC 2015.12 (6.12). You would need to first download and install the Lr CC 2015 (6.0) package and then download and install the Lr 6.13 patch on top it the base install.

Tried installing LR 6.0, but still get an 'Installation Failed'. Nothing in the 'error summary'. Old Adobe Lightroom folder wholly removed. I'll try restarting & trying again. Any other suggestions?

An update: I just finished 3.5 hrs chat & remote control from Adobe support, all to no avail. What Simon suggested should have worked. I've been 'escalated', but in the meantime, I'm still w/o functional LR. Does anyone know if I can install a trial LR CC to access my photo library without jeopardizing a future install of LR6?

Are you planning to use a trial Adobe Id account is for the trial or you are planning to use the same Adobe ID that you always have?

If you don't use Lr Classic CC's sync to Lr mobile feature, than you could start with the trial version.

I don't recommend using the trial Adobe Id account with the sync feature.
