Lightroom 4: Library View does not show nested folders when top folder is empty

LR4 does not show any images in Library view (reports nil images) when top level folder is empty and subordinate folders are requested to be shown

I most certainly does for me, on both my machines, on every folder.

You sure you don't have some filter set? Did you try restarting LR?

Darn - Houston, we have a problem!

Lee, you're right. My laptop took the installation just fine and the nested folders work as they always have.

BUT
On my main (95,000 pics) machine, the nested folder display is corrupted.
Creating a new catalog and importing the original LR4 one into it loses all the settings from the original (publish settings etc.)

where are the files that contain the publish settings so I can copy them?

I don't want to uninstall LR4 and restart the whole upgrade process...
